This is not a simple topic. Ryzen has something called infinity fabric that connects the portion of the cpu with the cores to the memory controller which is a different chiplet on the cpu. Infinity fabric speed is related to ram speed. Ryzen has historically done well on 3200 although some of the newer ones do best on 3600. More is not always better though and latency is important. If you want to maximize your Ryzen performance you should watch some YouTube videos on this topic. 3000 will make you lose some performance on Ryzen. High latencies can have a similar effect. Even the number of sticks of ram or the number of ranks on the sticks are a factor in the performance.

It makes a huge difference if you do video editing or photo editing.

You can see 32GB get used up fast if you have Lightroom and Photoshop open at the same time. Or Lightroom and something like Topaz Denoise AI. Or Adobe Premiere Pro.

But if you just game, 32GB is a sweet spot.

probably not, just a wild guess... maybe they're reducing inventory because the new Ryzen chips will be DDR5 which have a heck of a lot more bandwidth...

these "twinkling lights ram" is actually priced reasonable and overclocks pretty well. I don't expect everyone to know how to overclock ram and even 1.5v is safe to run 24/7. sucks to be them

Is 64gb better than 32gb for gaming??
Gaming doesnt need more than 16GB. These are technically for workstations.

To add to this, it also depends on which Ryzen chip you're using and if you are overclocking. 3000mhz is fine for a Ryzen 7 2700, but for newer generations you're going to want to touch 3200mhz, 3600mhz, and beyond.

Check if your motherboard supports this ram first.

Guess I was not paying attention to computer prices for awhile, but when did RAM go from $80 all the way to $260?
Good luck finding 64gb ram for $80 even the cheapest decent tforce won't go that low lol

In terms of gaming, and as others mentioned, the capacity will not help in any way. However the specs (cas 16) on these modules probably would as a lot of people buy pre builds. 64GB would mainly be to run your rig as a hypervisor or chose never to have to close a tab ever again.

Arguably, 16gb is still the sweet spot for gaming at the moment if cost is any concern at all. No game yet (maybe one or two exceptions) will max out 16gigs, even with multiple active programs running. The extra $100 you'll save from moving up can be used better in other areas such as CPU or GPU. We'll probably see 16 being passed in 5 or so years, though. If $100 isn't a significant difference for you, 32 is worthwhile for other reasons.
Agreed. Only if you run multiple VM's or do video/photo editing would you need more than this...

32 is the sweet spot for gaming especially newer games but yes 64 is overkill

this is lootbox type ram at 3k cas16. I would be very surprised if it overclocks well. But sure.... if you pump 1.5v into it im sure it can be pushed to some extent. The issue with that is the need for active cooling and just memtesting 64gb is gonna take days LMAO . This would not be in my top choices for overclocking.

I said the same thing looking at my ram utilization in games for the last couple years sitting at like max 12GB. As soon as i installed 32gb, it spiked up to about 17GB in games like black ops cold war and just "not new" games. I would say it very much depends but if you're running newer games, you should not be targeting 16gb. i would go with 32.

Thank you. Out of curiosity, could you just OC this 3000MHz to 3200MHz and line up with preferred frequency that way? Otherwise it looks like I better cancel my order as I've got a 3800XT.
The reality is that you can absolutely run 3000 on Ryzen. This is a splitting hairs issue. Yes, Ryzen will run faster on better memory. This is like any other subject of CL and clock speeds. Unless you are trying to eek out every little last bit of perf you can, you will be fine on 3000. Another thing to consider is that 99.999% of the people in this world would never notice the difference.

If you can afford faster memory, go for it. Just do not mistake the conversation to be that you have to buy faster memory. Just sayin.

I already have a pair of DDR4 running at 3200Mhz by default. Is there any risk if I overlock this one to match that higher frequency?
