FWIW, I purchased the 60V mower from Lowe's in August 2019. It came with a single 5.0Ah battery + charger. Worked great all of last year - It easily took care of my roughly 5000 sq ft lawn, including slopes on both sides (we have walkout basement) without getting bogged down. Keep in mind, the active lawn season in our neck of the woods is usually Apr - late Sep (not year round).

Unfortunately, come this spring - the battery would not accept a charge anymore (the charger keeps flashing red). I had followed Greenworks instructions in the manual and stored the battery and charger indoors (i.e. not in the garage and both were kept away from the extreme MN winter weather). Around Memorial day weekend, I contacted Greenworks warranty (outsourced to Gardner Inc), sent them the receipt and they confirmed that I qualify for a warranty replacement of the 5.0Ah battery but that they were out of stock. Have been having hard time getting in touch with them since then either over phone or email and getting a replacement battery. Needless to say, frustrated that I am unable to take care of my lawn.

I recommended Greenworks to others after my experience last year (and even borrowed a 5.0Ah battery from someone that purchased the mower on my recommendation to test whether the issue was with my mower or the battery). Mower works fine with their 5.0Ah battery. With this warranty experience, I am re-thinking whether to invest further into the Greenworks ecosystem or look at other brands, especially since Greenworks replacement batteries are not cheap.

Not trying to discourage anyone or thread crap here. Just sharing my experience - and maybe partially hoping someone with more experience than me with battery related outdoor tools and warranty fulfillment might have some suggestions that could help me and others in similar situation. Hoping I don't have to open a ticket with Better Business Bureau where I am seeing lot of similar experiences - after which Greenworks seems to help them.

I bought this model at the beginning of the mowing season this year and I've had no issues. I don't have too much lawn, it's mostly woods, but I don't use a full battery to do the whole thing and the mower holds 2. I've never had it bog down. I've never even had to use the Turbo button. We've been having a pretty solid drought here in the Midwest, though, so I'm not sure I've had truly overgrown lawn yet.

I have this. It mulches very well; I didn't have to rake up leaves from my maple tree last fall. I mow my grass tall and this mower doesn't leave many stragglers which is hard for taller grass. I mostly don't use the self propel feature; I usually have 1 to 2 bars left on my one battery after mowing my ~4500sqft yard. The biggest down side for the 60v lineup is the battery charges much slower than the 80v Greenworks or ego.

Thanks! Ordered one. My friend has one that I've been borrowing to mow my 1,500 Sq ft lawn. I use the 5ah battery and have it on turbo mode the whole time (not needed but I can walk faster with it on the whole time). I still have 2/4 bars left on the single battery. If I use the self propelled feature (which is really nice in tight turns because you can start your line while standing next to the mower) I still have the same charge left over. Oh and it's sooooo much quieter than a gas mower. No gas or oil to deal with, and it folds in half and stands on its end.

this or the 80V one from costco for a 4000 sqft yard? , any advise appreciated!!
also, would both the batteries be used at the same time or do I need to swap them out when they run out, for both these models.

If you have a menards near you go with 80v. The menards masterforce 80v is 100% compatible for a lower price on batteries and whatnot with the 11% discount.

Same price? Definitely greenworks. Just anecdotal but another poster said he talked to a service tech and they can barely keep up with the ryobi warranty repairs.

Sorry but this is definitely a overkill for a 1500 sqft lawn, all you need is a corded $100 mower. I would even go with a string trimmer to cut that small of a lawn.

My comment was for the people that ask "will a ___ah battery be enough for a ____ size lawn?" Also I already stated that I love using it (and I detest corded tools). I also plan on adding over 2,500 Sq ft of yard space so please don't assume you have enough information to advise on specific situations. 👍🏻

I have last years version of this mower.

I do not recommend unless you bag.

I mulch my grass and it leaves rows of large clippings behind.

I have to mow the same area a few extra times to disperse the clippings.

If I had a larger yard this would be a huge waste of time.

Did you check the voltage of your battery? Tool batteries of every brand that sit too long can self discharge to the point the charger wont charge them. If its just low voltage or a cell out of balance its a pretty easy fix. I have four Greenworks batteries, three 80v and one 60v. I've never had a problem with a battery and the oldest is from 2015.
Thanks! I had checked the voltage when the battery was still showing 2-3 bars and it was showing 60v (or slightly more). I just checked again after seeing your post and it is now reading between 51V - 52.3V (and there are zero bars on the 'charge meter').

Would appreciate if you might be able to share any references (e.g. online blog article OR youtube video, etc.) with instructions on how to fix this? Its encouraging to read that this is something that might have easy fix.

P.S. I do have basic understanding of electronics and have done my fair share of electronic projects in high school and undergrad before switching to software development (i.e. the idea of working with electronics is not completely new to me :-) )

Thanks,

I'm curious on the flexibility on these 60v when they have all possible voltage types in any other segment of outdoor power equipment

Yes! I got in on that deal too...came out to $170-175+ after taxes. Worked great until recently...shows 2 bars, but the battery is dead. Charge it up to 4/full bars, but only good for 30 mins or less. Then 2 bars again. Called Greenworks and their customer service is hit/miss. Lady hasn't replied to my email with my proof of purchase. The battery was more expensive than the mower and the cost, so I'm not terribly disappointed. HOWEVER, this should have lasted longer. I have a perfectly fine mower with a half-working battery now.

Higher end electric lawnmower will always have to be compared to ego since it typically wins comes out on top in various reviews. But it's pricey at $550.
