"Dolby Atmos Ready" is a funny way of saying these don't have Dolby Atmos...
The story with these speakers is that they have a little connector on the top so you can attach an up firing atmos speaker. So they're not atmos capable as is you need to buy the Atmos topper.

metal fasteners on top of each speaker serve as a connection point for optional Jamo S 8 ATM Dolby Atmos® upward-firing speakers

this allows for a neat, clean install since no speaker wire needs to be run to the speaker "toppers"

That was from the crutchfield product page
Atmos ready for these = mounting holes for atmos toppers you can add on the top of these speakers. That's and addition $180 to get those I think if you want them.

They are not Atmos speakers. They are the regular bookshelf speakers that are "atmos ready"

Still a great deal, so +1

I believe this is the all-time-low price. I think the only better value would be the Sony SSCS5 when they drop to $75 (which happens regularly).

I thought these regular speakers just throw out whatever sound it receives. Do they really matter if one has atmos receiver with atmos source sound?

Not every speaker. There are some special designs to an Atmos ready/enabled speaker.

Would these be a significant upgrade to Micca Mb42x?

In rudimentary terms yes a speaker "throw out whatever sound it receives".
A little more specific each "speaker" gets a specific "sound" to play at a certain time.

If you understand what a 5.1 surround system is doing with sound, all "Atmos" does is add more speakers to that that plays specific "sound" designed for that speaker.

Now whether it "really matter" is a whole other VERY broad topic that ultimately no one can answer for you, you would have to listen for yourself to actually know.
