MIDEA makes an inverter compressor ,dual hose (hose in hose) design that seems about the best
their 12k btu is rated at 10k actual cooling
some of these others are dreadful you buy a 14k btu unit that cools like a 5-6k unit.

repost but it did fluctuate in price a little. https://slickdeals.net/f/15120481-ukoke-uspc02s-smart-wifi-portable-3-in-1-air-conditioner-dehumidifier-fan-369-free-shipping?v=1 I'm installing my 12k one today. Just what I need for the rare extreme PNW heatwave in my tiny home. I can stuff it away under stairs later.

Consumer Reports says the high end LG models are barely acceptable.

Agree these things are trash in general

I have one of these and I really like it. When my central air died last summer I looked around for an alternative because I couldn't afford to replace it. This unit has been a lifesaver. Now I'm on the second summer with it and it's still working great. I use it for a small ranch style home and have fans to move the coolness around so I'm cooling much more square footage than it is really made for but it keeps on going. You experts can hype your twin tube this and waste electricity that. I don't care. For the price it's cooling a lot more area than it is designed for and it's a tenth the cost of replacing my central air unit. Another reason I bought this is because all of the windows in my house are crank out so I can't use an AC unit that sit's in a window. Go ahead and tell me how stupid I am for buying this. I'm literally quite comfortable ignoring you experts.

I should wait to hook it up before I comment but have to mention the 90 day return window with Walmart. Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't that get you through the summer until you decide to return it? Or has the recent heat wave baked my brain?

I'll need to confirm that 90day return window but I wanted to pass on a trick about keeping these upright when unboxing. I learned the hard way, they don't make it clear how to unbox and if done right it's easier to pack up and return. I've done that with a loud "renewed" Delonghi and got a refund.

First Don't cut the straps, simply pull them off. Then simply tilt it to cut the packing tape on the bottom. Then you can simply lift the box straight up without hurting your back. They do this with large TVs, same thing.

A Danby rebrand of the Midea 12K inverter unit is on sale at Costco for $399 with free shipping. I bought one of these in May and just bought a second one today.

I don't have costco but I'm okay with this, easy set up but I didn't fuss with wifi phone app. It's quieter than some I've used. Can barely tell when the compressor kicks in over the normal fan noise. I also have a thick light blocking curtain that kind of insulates the vent hose. The window kit was really easy to fit but I may need some foam strips. The mechanical vent is kind of novel but I don't see much need for it.

last deal had the 12k version for just $20 more but not now. Was $389.00

I love these brand names that seem to come from a random name generator [thehustle.co]. The companies that spend millions on brand development must be screaming in frustration. It's sort of like the monkey that throws darts at the Wall Street Journal and beats the best mutual fund managers. It's disruption at its finest.

I'll take a Ukoke over a GE any day!

Bought one of those based on your suggestion. My Costco didn't have them in store unfortunately so I'll probably get it at the end of July since shipping has been delayed everywhere in general. Hope it works out, cheaper than a mini split, although less efficient.

The Danby one a few comments above yours is a dual hose, and it's hose in hose so you only have one tube instead of a dual tube mess. Same function, better aesthetic. $400

I purchased a Haier 13,500-BTU (dual hose) from bjs in May 2019. Does a great job of cooling a 250 sqft room, quieter than wall units in other rooms, and it's easy to take out of the window in the winter. It had good reviews. Sorry but can't find the model no. Never say never.

Here is my situation. My parents recently moved to FL and like to keep around 78F yearly temp. The guest bedroom where I sleep seems to be the warmest place in the house. Here in MA I keep temp around 70 sometimes even less in winter. I would only use a portable AC at night so I can sleep and put in the closet when I am not in FL. Room is less than 250sq ft. Any recommendations under $400?

thanks, had I known about that then I may have passed on the 12K Ukoke for $389. That said I did get a deal and don't anticipate heavy use. I like it so far, easy to install and readily available from Walmart.

Sounds like the Danby might be slightly quieter so I'll it a month or so while I decide if it's worth exchanging and paying non club prices. I just wish there was one notch lower on the fan settings, but I'm adapting to it.

I don't know much about this Dry setting. Don't think I need it in the PNW and don't want to mess with a drain kit.
