Right now you are weak, and your tongs are weak. It's pathetic. You can't look yourself in the mirror, and your partner has to imagine someone else when your gross body is on top of them.
Amazon has Winco 16" Tongs for $2.19, and that will fix part of your problem. These are heavy-duty, long metal tongs. They are the most popular brand supplying the restaurant industry. These are currently at their lowest price ever offered through Amazon, and if you have Prime free shipping this is the cheapest of any vendor.

Good point, thanks for the heads-up!
The top Amazon review suggests a fix for that (including photos). I might try it out.
Here's the suggestion (not mine, I just copy-pasted it):
"A lot of people complain about the tongs not having a locking mechanism.
Well here's a simple fix. You'll need a nice thick wire/rod (a heavy duty hanger would work). If you can get a stainless steel wire/rod even better. Then you'll need some heavy duty wire cutters, nippers work great. Cut the wire/rod and bend with pliers into a rectangular shape around the bottom of the tongs. You'll want the rectangular piece of wire/rod to be kept close to the bottom of the tongs metal (so it doesn't pass the rivet, the rivet keeps the rectangular piece from sliding off the tong).
When you slide the rectangular piece down to the rivet (it shouldn't fall off) and the tongs will open fully. When you slide the rectangular piece up (around the middle of the tongs) the tongs will stay closed. Problem solved!"
