Looks like Citi just devalued its points. In June, I saw 1 pt = 1 cent for direct deposit or check. Now 1 pt = 0.5 cent for direct deposit or check.

How much you get in cash per point depends on which card(s) you have- if you hold a Prestige for example you can still get 1 cent a point.

You also get 1 cent per point (with any of the cards) for travel in the Citi travel portal- and can usually get 1 cent pp (sometimes higher) on gift cards too.

Best value as always with flexible point systems will be transferring to airline programs- especially for higher service level tickets.

That said- the premier used to ALSO give you a 25% bonus on portal hotel bookings with points AND you could stack it with 4th night free on Prestige- so that was a decent combo for a while- but they killed that off a few months back.

I redeemed a week or so ago at 1 cent per point.

edit: on prestige.

I got denied as well. 800 score, pay my CC's in full every month, utilization is very low. Haven't applied for a lot of credit recently (just Chase preferred a few months ago and a mortgage refi 6 months ago). Haven't been declined for a CC app in a long time. Will try the recon line.

edit: called and the automated service said it's because I have too many financial accounts (I have a lot but not a ton, probably fairly typical with maybe a few extra CC's), and because I had a recent query on my credit report.

for which card? was it premier or citi cash ?
I did 3 month ago with premier and only .5 per point (mortage trick was only way that time). Unless it changed recently or you had citi custom cash. That one claims 20k points can be redeemed for 200 cash back.

Same scenario here 800+… reason was "too much UNUSED credit lines." They want people who love racking up debt haha

im a cheap guy, can I downgrade this citi premiere to another card? I have double cash, and costco citi card. but im interested in the custom cash card, since 0 renewal fee.

I would wait til renew time or do it instantly idk. whatever.

but I dig how the citi premier looks. dumb as that is. I dont want a 95 dollar fee.

Citi premiere @ 95 a year, vs double cash back citi card? ive been using double cash back as main for a long time

is Sams club/costco warehouse and their gas stations considered 1% as regular purchases, or 3% as gas/grocery purchase? that is bulk of my spending tbh

I did read, there's a 24 month extended warranty feature though with citi premiere, thats nice.

How often do they change the cash redemption rate? I should have cashed out when I had the chance in June (1 pt = 1 cent).

no idea, I only have citi double cash back, and those have never changed on me, 2% back on everything, 1% at time of purchase, and 1% back when I pay bill = 2 %

and costco citi visa, 2% Costco everyday. this is my first citi card with points

Do they give you CC number right away or should I wait for physical card to arrive?

Just checked my own Premier card account. 1 cent/point cashout option is still there - statement credit, direct deposit, or mailed check.

That is how it used to be. It was only recently that Chase added the broader 1 cent/point cashout options.

Rarely. Until a couple months ago, the only way to get 1 point = 1 cent was to request a mortgage check. Then Citi added the general 1cpp cashout options.

I had this card quite awhile and travelled the world with it. Citi slowly made it less desirable and finally killed it. Citi has been getting worse across all their cards. The only one I still have from them is the double cash back card.

IMO, the Costco card is better than the premier. I found it difficult to justify the $95 a year with this card. At most, I was just breaking even b/w the points and fee. I think the Costco card has more benefits. If you travel often enough i think the Chase Reserve is better than the premier.
