You said you already closed 5 old credit cards. Have you seen your credit score take a hit from closing those cards?
Well credit karma is reporting 5 cards now closed.

I closed the discount tire credit card, credit went up 5 points, to 801. then now today, credit karma detected 4 of my USAA credit cards closed, now it dropped 801 to 780.

not really as big a hit as I expected. I have a mustang loan, it will be closed too I just sold it few days ago. so 6 accounts closed in a month. booooom. debating on closing this citi premiere card once I get the 800 in my bank account, I dont really want it.

Heard Citi only approves credit cards for US 'citizens' or 'permanent residents (Green card holders). And others, even with SSN, will not be approved.

Anyone has data points/info to say otherwise? (even for other Citi cards, not necessarily this specific card)

Thank you!

Yep, mustang shows as paid now too. 765. So 5 credit cards, and 1 car loan closed, drop of 40 points. Thats acceptable. What kills credit though, (my mortgage lender) accidentally reported one of my months as late/not paid. (im on forbearance) and it dropped it 200 points!. first missed payment in 10 years. but! that was a banking error, I contacted them, they contacted credit buruearus. 5 days later everyone was reporting paid on time. (forbearance shows as paid)

crazy how someone, genuinely good credit for 10-15 yers and one missed payment can knock a 800+ to 600s that is a scam if ive ever seen one.

I am closing this citi premiere once I redeem those $$ and just rocking apple/citi double cash and citi costco. thats all I need for my future. 10-15k credit limits on each

You don't need to be a U.S. citizen to qualify for a credit card in the U.S. However, credit card companies must verify your identity, and some companies choose to only offer cards to U.S. citizens or permanent residents who have a Social Security number (SSN). Card issuers may ask for your SSN on the application. If you can't get an SSN, you may be able to apply for an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) from the IRS and use it instead. ITINs are issued to people who need to file federal income tax returns in the U.S. but don't qualify for an SSN. Several major card issuers, such as Barclays and Discover, won't take ITINs from applicants instead of an SSN. But many card issuers will accept an ITIN, including American Express, Bank of America, Capital One, Chase, Citi, OpenSky, and Wells Fargo.

Thank you for the detailed explanation.
And I do agree with what you mentioned on most banks. But with Citi (and Wells Fargo too) according to some data points, at least some cards are only approved for people who are citizens/permanent-residents.
And it's also not necessarily about having an SSN, because this applies to people who have SSNs but not citizens/permanent-residents.

I think you mess up SSN with ITIN. The main difference between an SSN and ITIN is that SSN is issued to US citizens and authorized non-citizens, while ITIN is issued to the resident with foreign status or undocumented immigrants. The latter cannot be issued an SSN, but if they are allowed to stay in the US, then they have to pay their taxes. So in a way, ITIN is used as a replacement for SSN in case you are not allowed to possess an SSN. ITIN can be used in place of SSN for taxation purposes. SSN is issued to citizens and certain noncitizens residents. ITIN is issued to undocumented aliens and nonresident aliens who work or conduct business in the US.

For more information about how SSN and ITIN affect credit card application, and which particular card issuers (including Citi and Wells Fargo) accept ITINs, see what Experian says [experian.com].

I got this card and they never asked me about my citizenship. I don't understand how they can get that info as they only asked for your SSN in the application.

What you say is true. And I know about those differences between SSN and ITIN too.
But what I am saying is Citi (at least in some cases/cards) asks if the applicant is a 'US citizen or a permanent resident'. So for the non-citizens with an SSN, when they answer 'No' there's been rejections of CC applications.
So that was my original question.
And one person above has said they were not asked the citizenship question, so maybe for this card they don't ask that.

Thank you for confirming that they didn't ask that Q.
For some cards/people they have asked that. So maybe that question is triggered due to an answer to a prior question or something...

How will one know if they qualify for the bonus? I thought I had a ThankYou card before but I can't remember if we closed it within the time requirements. I would hate to get a card, spend the money on it and then be surprised that the bonus didn't post.
