We have carpet, in a small space.

This is going back. Doesn't last long enough.

Maybe for hardwood floors, but defintely not carpet.

It depends on your application. My experience with Dyson's cordless has been that it is very ergonomic to use, but the suction doesn't compare with a good corded vacuum. So it you want to use it often, it's good. But if you want a deep clean, I didn't find it that good.
