Buying direct from costco is obviously a better deal (brand new, comes with that extra filter for 100), but this isn't too bad if you're unable to wait.
Also it should be noted that while Costco has official filters on sale for $30 there are also generics on Amazon that are less.

loaded with some tacos last night and i finally tested. it turned to red after a few seconds. stayed there for 5 min, then switched to orange for another 5 min then back to green. now i know its working fine. but it has to be a few inches next to the sensor though. so how does it suck up my whole room across the other corners?

I bought all the generic ones on there they are junk. I use it near litter box and my 1 year old hepa filter still clears his fresh poo and such but generic i smell in other room when he goes. So testing failed on generic there not even close to being as good as the real stuff why not buy a sheet and tape over old one and use that since it dont matter to most if it works good or not use without hepa why not use charcoal bet many say that works perfect too lol
In addition, the Washington State department of health is openly recommending against the technology due to potential harmful byproducts. I recommend doing your research. HEPA and Carbon filtration is well reviewed and research is voluminous.

You know how it compares to a Germ Guardian AC4825E
Make it a hell of a deal getting it at $99 from costco.
Why would your utility company do that ??

Your air purifier started up, realized it would never win and gave up. Find the source of the smell. And if you can't find it call a professional to find it. Every odor has a source. Sometimes its just harder to find. You may be better off with an ozone generator to kill off the source of the smell. Close off the room, run the generator, vent the room out. Don't breathe the ozone!
Ok $100- $20 is $80, but you cant compare third party generic from Amazon with Winix brand (especially as you are concerned with quality) , so you extra included Winix filter worth at least $30. So cost of new humidifier is $70 when on sale at Costco for $99 with extra filter set - if you want to buy a used refurb for $63 go head, Id rather have new for the equivalent of $7 more, plus Costco's amazing return policy
Contacted Winix no help. Costco refused to replace the unit, only allowed refund. I also noticed that this air purifier is made in Thailand not Korea.
