you need to add other operating cost
Those costs are there either way and have nothing to do with the ingredient costs.

Also, judging from the last few I've bought, $2.00 is probably generous for the cost of ingredients.

Thiere subs cost at most $2 to make a food long.
Overhead costs are enormous. Food costs are only a small portion of what it costs to make that sandwich. I think they would need to have lines out the door to have a chance to make money with B1G1 and that's only when drinks and other items being purchased. If all you buy are the two sandwiches they lost money on you.

They don't need a new menu, they need new management to enforce fresh ingredients to their franchises. I stopped going after too many stores were serving stale bread, slimey deli meat, and brown lettuce. I don't know if they're struggling with profits, but the other local sandwich shops don't have this problem.
That must be your store. You are welcome to go to jersy mike at $14+

The chicken they use is a blend of chicken and soy... 30% chicken, 70% soy vegetable blend...

Go to the cheapest supermarket you can find on this planet. Then I challenge you to make that footlong for $2.
ACME supermarket makes great subs for $5... selections are usually turkey, ham and cheese, roast beef, Italian...

Who makes the best subs?
I used to go to Blimpie a lot... I think they're still around... What happened to Quizno's?... Love that place...
