Subway apparently closed a lot of stores today to train their workers for a new menu overhaul. A lot of articles online say they're giving away a million sandwiches tomorrow to promote the new menu.
Overhead costs are enormous. Food costs are only a small portion of what it costs to make that sandwich. I think they would need to have lines out the door to have a chance to make money with B1G1 and that's only when drinks and other items being purchased. If all you buy are the two sandwiches they lost money on you.
They don't need a new menu, they need new management to enforce fresh ingredients to their franchises. I stopped going after too many stores were serving stale bread, slimey deli meat, and brown lettuce. I don't know if they're struggling with profits, but the other local sandwich shops don't have this problem.
That must be your store. You are welcome to go to jersy mike at $14+

Also, judging from the last few I've bought, $2.00 is probably generous for the cost of ingredients.
