Excellent game with an excellent story. If you played nier automata, you'll likely enjoy this one too.

I can't imagine not enjoying this game. Literally one of the GOAT.

I didn't see the beginning as a slog at all. It's all part of the amazing story. Calling the first several story missions fetch quests is a bad joke. They're literally quests that are taking you to new areas to help unravel the story.
To each their own I suppose. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As much as I like Automata, I think Replicant has a severe problem with not respecting the player's time. The first 10 hours of this game are (literally) fetch quests, walking from one end of the map to the other.

Thanks! I read similar comments. Also read bland combat and bland enemy variety. I loved Automata, but I'm wary of this one.

I'm about 10 hours into Nier and the story is crawling and the combat is fairly boring. It definitely feels like it has potential and like I'm brushing up against something deeper, but it's certainly nowhere Nier as well paced as Automata. Still worth checking out if you enjoyed Automata, but you could also wait for the inevitable $30 or less price drop for this.

I love Automata. It's probably my favorite game of the last gen. But Replicant's intro is loaded with fetch quests. Look through the listing and read these descriptions — they're absolutely fetch quests:

https://www.rpgsite.net/feature/1...ns-rewards

- search for herbs
- deliver a message
- find hidden egg
- collect 10 pieces of mutton
- pick 3 tulip bulbs
- place books on shelves
- etc.

Might as well play an MMO.

I will admit there are some time consuming quests (like fetch or fishing for 10 types of fish), but they are optional.

I ignored the most tedious optional quests and focused on the main story. The main story is great.

I was really disappointed in the PS4 visual quality especially with no PS5 enhancements even.

I'm really tempted. Friends of mine highly recommended the Nier series to me.

I haven't played either Replicant nor Automata.

Perhaps it'll be better that I don't have the experience of Automata to influence my expectations for Replicant?

Speaking as a huge fan of this and Automata and to some extent Drakengard 1 and 3, this can be slow and tedious. The characters get and story get you through to an extent.

Play through past the first ending. It picks up. It's worth it. Emil, Kaine, Nier, Weissey, and yes Shadowlord will become memorable.

This game is basically a remake of the original Nier from 2010. Back then fetch quests were all the rage. I played the original and remember it being one of my favorites, it gets better if you stick with it.

How your guys think about this deal? Is it a good one?
I'd buy it now if you're going to play it immediately. I have a bunch of games in my backlog, so for me I'd wait until it gets to $25-$30

It's $30 on GameFly so I just bought it there. Was waiting for a digital sale on Xbox but it hasn't happened so far.
