I'd rather spend $5 more and get either a Netgear or Tplink metal body switch.

GS205 Information:

MEMORY BUFFER: 1024 Kbits
ADDRESS TABLE SIZE: 4K (or 2K depending on source)
OPERATING TEMPERATURE: 0 - 40C
802.3ab 1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet
802.3u 100BASE-TX Fast Ethernet
802.3i 10BASE-T Ethernet IEEE
802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet
802.3x flow control
Jumbo Frame Support : 9,216 bytes
MTBF (@ 25° C) : 1,386,257 hours

NO QoS support. This means if you are streaming video or using your internet for voice (VOIP) and have people also downloading files it may cause issues.

The metal framed GS105 version of this is rated for twice as many hours (MTBF) at twice the temperature (25C is not realistic, it is 77F).

GS105:
Energy Efficient Ethernet Support (IEEE 802.3az) : Yes
Jumbo Frame Support : Yes
Queue WRR Ratio : 1:2:4:8
MAC Table Size : 2K
Packet buffer size : 128KB
IEEE 802.1p QoS : Yes
Max Power Consumption : 2.7W
Operating Temperature : 50°C
MTBF (hours) : 3,197,945 hours

TP-Link for a bit more money in metal case linked above has all the specs of the netgear GS205 plus jumbo frame of 16K, QoS, and IGMP snooping. TP-Link does not list their MTBF.

This isn't exactly a deal for me since I got this switch for $8 used - very good on Amazon and it was priced similarly new.

This switch isn't very new or anything the box was circa 2010(?) real old
I have over 10 years old Netgear 5-port 1000 (white color, Switch.
But it comes with a big DCEEK! adaptor.
Is there any improvement on newer ConfusedNetgear 5-port 1000 switch?

This one has a smaller power adapter but I'm not sure what it's rated at. Gigabit is a must for me too

What are you doing with it that requires you to have a metal box versus a plastic one? It's all about the performance of the electronics inside.

I would rather have a 10 gigabit switch in a paper mache box then a 1 GB switch in a titanium box

Electronics on the inside perform better with better heat dissipation. And such switches with otherwise the same port speeds are only $3 to $5 more than this one. You are arguing for no reason...

This is very bad.
No 5G support. If wired internet goes down, it will not switch to phone hotspots. Is this 1995 or what?
Can you provide us a link to a switch with this capability for $11

plastic is made for consumers
metal for businesses

Thanks for that! I ended up getting the TP-Link TL-SG105 for $13.49 from Amazon. Slightly better ratings (and more of them) than the GS205 (the OP), metal case, and supports QOS and IGMP snooping, for a couple bucks more.

as HA said, metal will last basically twice the MTBF.

I have a situation right now where this switch would be fed by another switch. Does that result in a huge loss in speed?

The way my tv cabinet is setup, I can't have direct runs so ran one wire previously which went into a switch and then there is a wire going in the wall behind the tv but now behind the TV.

Just wondering at what point a person has to many switches in a row if that makes sense. they are all gigabit btw
