The Alliant Cashback Visa Signature card has removed the annual fee (previously $59) and now offers 2.5% cash back on up to $10,000 in purchases a month ($120,000 a year) with no annual fee. Once the $10,000 per month limit is reached, additional purchases will earn 1.5% cash back.
In order to qualify for the Tier One (2.5%), credit union members must have an Alliant checking account, sign up for electronic statements, maintain a $1000 average balance in the checking account, and receive at least one electronic deposit per month. An electronic deposit is defined as a direct deposit, payroll deposit, ATM deposit, mobile check deposit or transfer from another financial institution.

This looks as simple to satisfy as setting up an automated transfer from my main bank to Aliant on the 1st, automated transfer out of alliant (or automated pull) on the 5th and just pass the same money back and forth.
This is definitely worth the extra 0.5% unless the $1000 permanently sitting in the account is a problem.
As for having $1k tied up permanently, frame it as an investment:
Assuming you spend $24k a year ($2k/month), $24k * 0.005 = $120
$120/$1000 = 12%, which is a pretty good ROI in my book.
$40/0.03 = $1333, so spending $1333 alone will recoup that cost.

The Wells Fargo is definitely appealing for the 0% for 15 months -- semi-deal-breaker for me because of foreign transaction fee while the Alliant and AOD are free.

$40/year, maybe they will only check the first year?

The Wells Fargo card was a sweet deal too. Thanks for the math, I agree holding that the extra 0.5% is worth it when this card was already worth paying $120/annually.
Thank you for mentioning this. I read TnC and it is promo 3*

Thank you for that info. Do you that being a member of that bicycle group makes you eligible for AOD? I read it was only for employees of those orgs. Also, will they disqualify you later for not being the employee? Too much risk here. I want to get AOD but because of this unknown I am inclined towards Alliant
Yes it does. I signed up for the bicycle group for $5 and then added the membership number to my application and got approved for an account. Then they denied my credit application. It was a waste of a hard pull.
Damn! Sorry for your HP. Do you know why they rejected you? Is it coz of credit score or something else?
My concern is my credit history which is around 2yrs only. Don't want to waste Hard Pull for that.

The reason given was "too many revolving credit lines."
Thanks for the DP.
