The AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz Eight-Core AM4 Processor is a powerful eight-core processor with 16 threads, designed for socket AM4 motherboards. Built with Zen 2 architecture, the third-generation 7nm Ryzen processor offers increased performance compared to its predecessor. It has a base clock speed of 3.6 GHz and can reach a max boost clock speed of 4.4 GHz. Moreover, it features 32MB of L3 cache, 24 PCIe Gen 4 lanes, and support for dual-channel 3200 MHz DDR4 RAM. Users should pair it with an AMD X500-series motherboard to fully take advantage of PCIe 4.0. This processor has a 65W TDP (Thermal Design Power) and includes a Wraith Prism cooler with RGB LED lighting. Please note that it does not have an integrated GPU, so a dedicated graphics card is required.

Not bad considering this comes with a wraith prism fan that's not bad tbh. I would probably choose this over the 5600x atm. Extra 2 cores will probably age a bit better.

$130 more, or a roughly 50% higher price isn't exactly a little more to jump to the 5000 series. The 3000 series is a great option if someone has a budget but doesn't want to sacrifice performance or core count.
Back to the same price exactly one year later
For productivity and multi tasking, the 3700x > 5600, and 3900 > 5800. If you game, then yeah go 5 series. But that's not everyone.

I really feel this series should be a lot cheaper by now esp with the old board support. Not much of a deal, go with 5000 series for a little more

I wanted the 5600x but I couldn't pass the value proposition of a slightly used 3700X for $170 locally. It's basically what I paid for my 2700x a year and a half ago. Now I'll get the 5000 when it drops significantly as well. I'll likely hold onto the 5000for a while to let DDR5 mature, before making a steep investment.

AMD knows their CPUs are in demand so the pricing won't go down by much this year or maybe the next. The only reason prices for the 5000 series went slightly down was because Intel drop its prices significantly, still AMD CPUs sell out.

With Intel competition? Maybe

The problem is Zen 2 can generally compete with Skylake architecure. It's not a terrible CPU in terms of market options.

Zen+ was in a much worse position relatively when those went cheap.

Seeing how much Intel dropped the price on 10th and 11th series. This pricing is less appealing. I think these should be below $250 now
