I have a cheap black and decker and I agree with you if you are trying to trim a hedge or bush and make it look sharp. But I use mine for more hacking and for this purpose it works great. I have a sycamore tree that I needed to cut back some small spring growth branches and it worked great. Used the bow saw for the more substantial branches.
These are great until you cut the extension cord 👍
While $23.40 is a good price, the added cost of the cords (or replacement cords) should be factored in.
I have a HedgeHog and love it. However, dealing with multiple extension cords on the side of my house, I decided to give the Ryobi 18v hedge trimmer a try. Already in the Ryobi 18v universe, so the Ryobi Day deal is still going on and it was $99 for trimmer plus charger and 2 batteries, which can be used for my other Ryobi tools (like the chainsaw). I will reserve the corded one for thicker branches in case the battery unit isn't up to the task.

Exactly. I got cheap and bought a corded B&D and cut two extension cords so for that expense I could've had a cordless.
