It's funny, I haven't been in the PC market for ages so I hadn't heard of Gigabyte until recently when they were attacked on the Chinese social media site Weibo by the Communist Youth League. You can read the story here [scmp.com] and here [notochina.org].

Gigabyte posted on its own Web site a legitimate marketing message that simply mentioned that their laptops were manufactured in Taiwan and not China, and that they were proud of the quality control there.

These impish young people in China, with the full backing of the Chinese Communist Party, were offended that Gigabyte would dare state that Taiwan manufacturing was better then China manufacturing. They swooped in to bully Gigabyte into shutting up. Sure enough, within days of them posting this to Weibo, Gigabyte laptops disappeared from all e-commerce sites in China, and Gigabyte had to issue a groveling apology, as if they had committed a mortal sin in talking about "Made in Taiwan".

For those of you who don't China-Taiwan politics,Taiwan is a tiny country where many of the Nationalists who fled China after the 1949 Civl War went after they were defeated by the Communists. While the Communists proceeded to murder over 65 million of their own citizens and engage in human rights abuses that continue to this day, Taiwan became one of the economic powerhouse in Asia.

Now that China is become an economic force in itself, it is brainwashing its citizens to view Taiwan not as the independent country it's been since 1949, but as a "renegade province" to one day be invaded and "reunited".

I don't know if you're offended by China's increasing dominance over manufacturing, but I sure am. When I see a deal like this for a Made in Taiwan laptop, I'm going to jump at it and I'm going to tell everyone to buy it, if only to prevent China from taking over everything.

If China manages to take over chip manufacturing and ODM production, that will be a death knell to this industry that America invented. Taiwan is the thin line that's protecting us from ourselves.

That's enough to get me to buy Gigabyte from now on (and thanks to the OP for bringing up this deal).

This is a great deal.

I'm using my Gigabyte Aero 15x that I bought a couple of years ago and it can still handle the kitchen sink thrown at it. Tempting deal but I'm gonna wait for newer generations to see if they implement Ryzen chips into this lineup.

Everyone raves about the screens on the Lenovo Legion Pro 5. Saying it's gloriously beautiful and whatnot...however how would it stack up side by side next to this OLED laptop? Is it not even comparable? Aside from deeper blacks are the screens comparably beautiful from a color/vibrance perspective?

I think I would hate a matte type screen. I currently use a glossy vivobook flip 14 and the glare is very rarely bad enough that it is ruining my day. But colors look beautiful like a nice phone display. Is the legion like this too?

I'm afraid I have never seen any of these newer laptops as I'm currently in the boonies of Mexico...

The oled has to be calibrated to ensure no black crush.

Very tempting offer. Been looking for a decently powerful and relatively light and slim laptop. Wasn't even considering intel cpus or oled screens till I saw this deal. A few concerns. This doesn't have advanced optimus or a mux, so there will be a slow down when using the internal screen. Also no gsync. The 4k is way too high for a 3060, let alone any mobile gpu to handle for gaming. Playing in 1080p on a 4k screen would make it look blurry, unless there was integer scaling. The intel igpu supports integer scaling, but I wonder if it would really work in practice since the nvidia gpu is doing the game rendering.

This is using the latest 11th gen intel mobile cpus that are using 10nm, and a new architecture, unlike the desktop 11th gen cpus that still use 14nm. Turns out they compete quite well with the amd 5000 mobile cpus.

Any cashback offers that are decent right now?

I've got an older oled 4k tv and one of the highly rated lg ips desktop monitors. I think the legion is also using a lg ips screen. IPS cannot compare to oled when it comes to contrast. Seeing colored objects next to black really make it stands out, something lcds could never achieve. The lg ips is nice and the colors look great, but dark colors looks not so good in a dark room.

I ordered one. I figure I'll replace this 4.5 year old Alienware and get HDMI 2.1 for the LG CX. I was going to get a 3060 or 3070, but those cost barely less than this new laptop.

What it has that I want:
4k OLED 15" - small enough to carry and big enough to enjoy
3060 or better GPU
Two NVME slots
Quality keyboard
Thunderbolt 4
HDMI 2.1
Ethernet
i7 or better. Sure, a 9 series Ryzen is better, and so is an i9, and both can't be had with all these features at this price point. The 3800/i9 version is $3k. Not worth the extra dough. Actual performance differences are tiny.

Other thoughts:
Bonus that all ports are on the sides and not the back.
Wish it had more than the one usb-c compatible slot.
16GB is plenty of memory for me. I don't see myself using more. Right now, with dual monitors and many windows and programs running, I'm only at 10/16GB on the current machine.
4TB NVME is still way too expensive, so I won't upgrade to two of those yet. Will move over a 2TB drive or two, though.
Not sure if it supports m.2 sata.
Wish it had a touch screen.
Windows Home is just as good as Windows Pro for the features I use.
Running at 1080p on a 4k is good quality for gaming. This should do that just fine. Not that I game that much anyway.

Probably but I would much rather have a combination of medium and high settings and try and hit 1440p. Will make a massive difference in terms of clarity since 4k is mostly wasted on a 15 inch size anyway.

I game on my OLED 4k Lenovo X1 Extreme Gen 2 (1660) all the time. Wreckfest, Forza, etc. Works great at 1080p, which is exactly half of 4k (no weird scaling issues, 1:1).

Lol at everyone saying this can't play games b/c of the 4k. Nah. Of course there is better in a desktop of boat anchor gaming laptop, but not at $1,399. YMMV.

Bit the bullet on this one. Not gonna find a oled laptop with the latest performance components at this price any time soon. Would suck if the next version had a mux/advanced optimus and gsync. Checking on the terms of the newegg rebate, it doesn't say which retailers are allowed.

Will provide update later on how this turns out. Checking with some notebook forums, there is a way to get an unlocked bios that allows xmp ram profiles and opens up the bios option for optimus or dedicated gpu. But they say selecting the wrong option on a hard wired optimus laptop would leave the screen blank and need to use a bios programmer to fix it. Not sure why as the cmos battery can be unplugged.

I have the gigabyte 3070 model, 4K screen and 32gb ram. The fan can get loud and the laptop gets hot during heavy loads. Yes, the flu is rated for lower watts than others, but it plays all the latest AAA games, high/ultra settings, without a glitch. The 4K OLED screen is vibrant. Really happy with the purchase.
