FWIW I just learned that the psu bundled with this case does not have the braided cables unlike the retail version which has "some" braided cables. Although still a good deal, this explains part of the price drop.

I thought the market for this case is fairly large. I would be surprised if they dont bundle the white version pretty soon here with a white sfx variant. Everywhere i see a new build is 85% of the time in a lian li 011 D, XL , or mini. https://static.slickdealscdn.com/ima...s/emot-LOL.gif . Granted i typically look at custom loop builds but even air cooled builds.....
agree. Compared to the older pc-O8/9/10/11/12 made in taiwan (All new lian lis are made in mainland china), those newer versions actually sell due to price point, looks and decent case performance.

Pretty sure if you think you're into water-cooling but you've never heard of Lian Li then you're not really that into water-cooling.

Good luck!

Hadn't heard about that change. Not surprising, but a definitely a shame. Of course, manufacturing advantages that were true when Lian Li started have surely diminished by now. And of course, that suggests that their biggest differentiation (besides the continued positioning focus of "when you think water-cooling, think Lian Li") would indeed include the marketing that comes up in this thread (more a "when you search for water-cooling videos, we'll ensure you see some Lian Li").

Good luck!

5 years is unacceptable for a PSU warranty. My Corsair and EVGA units both have 10 year warranties. Both are fully modular 80+ Gold units like this one and both were purchased for around $90. If you're in love with this case, Walmart's website is showing it for $125.95 w/o PSU. This combo isn't worth it.

A solid review of this is available on Tom's Hardware [tomshardware.com]. Some of the compromises/complaints mentioned in this thread are highlighted in the review. At the same time, the wild and weird choices Lian Li made in this design are also laid out as well.

Good luck!

The "build quality" is just all around different starting with the O11 dynamic from 2018 (Chinese). The original O11 design (Non der8auer: Made in Taiwan) was more sturdy, had specific aluminum cut outs and and thicker glass panels. Just performed overall worse due to older design decisions.

I personally have a 2015-2016 era O8 in special white color (Legit has a car paint finish) and while its not the best performer, theres a night and day difference between the mass produced stamped steel Chinese and Taiwnese hybrid/full alluminum models.

Granted O8 WAS a $399 MSRP case in 2015.. (2016 white version was $499) Factor inflation and its quite obvious logistically.. I agree that Lian Li was more niche prior to the O11 Dynamic, though..

Edit:

Even the older stuff from 2010 era that doesn't look special just has its own vibe to it.. It just screams.. "quality". I cant really explain it. The Chinese stuff just.. seems.. well.. average..

That original Lian li factory was something special.. It's unfortunate that they only do custom case orders now like D4N A4, though I heard this is also moving over to the Chinese factory.

I don't blame the lian Li company for the move.. I just wish they still sold taiwanese models here and there.

Future motherboards may require 12VO PSU's so unless you plan on building around current gens hardware the PSU may have a short life span.

I wonder how the quality of the Lian Li power supply is.

Unfortunately, in terms of high wattage SFX power supplies, our options are limited and expensive :/

That last part is the most critical. SFX choices are limited, so my response has largely been to avoid it and stick to ATX cases religiously. If you're building an actually compact design SFX is understandable. Here's SFX is a choice and a bad one.

I should add that I'm literally surrounded right now by three different desktop style cases (two from Antec, one from Silverstone) which I selected in part because:
  1. I went through a phase of desktop cases (I had them one or two stacked adjacent to Hi-Fi gear at any given time)
  2. The cases in question used full-size ATX power supplies
Perhaps one of the more significant dings against this case unless you were already specifically shopping this model. I wouldn't want to buy an OEM PC with a custom power supply that would complicate a swap upgrade, I certainly wouldn't want to do the same in a solution I'm literally putting together myself.

Good luck!

A "compromise" is the older Corsair 280X case — similar "cube" shape, with the PSU behind the mobo/on the side, but full ATX PSU. Downside is that it doesn't support full ATX mobos (so only mATX/ITX). Also no vertical GPU support.

I mean, ideally it lasts as long as the contemporaneous motherboard you acquire? This should be a non-issue given that the standard is far from widespread in the retail motherboard market. I seem to recall last year saw the announcement of the first consumer model(?).

Good luck!

Necro bump for the truth. I have a still new aluminum Lian Li case probably from 2005 or so. It reeks of quality. I keep it as a reminder of what they used to be
