Beware! Their after-sale service is horrible/non-existent. The SSD I bought started malfunctioning after Amazon's 30-day return period and after I contacted SK Hynix, they kept asking me to contact Amazon (!). Once I contacted Amazon, Amazon said it's not common to return after 30 days and it will have a restocking fee. I reached out to SK Hynix again about that and then they started giving me a run-around again until I gave up after 7 back-and-forth emails.

I used to recommend SK Hynix SSDs. They are very good products. But I would avoid it now because there really isn't a way any more for warranty service and all you can do with Amazon is return it under Amazon rules. You cannot request warranty service through Amazon. So, the 5 year warranty is meaningless.

Until a few months ago, they used to have an unadvertised RMA form at

https://ssd.skhynix.com/customer_en.html

but that has disappeared with just a bunch of FAQ answers and email contact form. May be they have another unadvertised form somewhere but I doubt it.

No point in doing business with such customer unfriendly and borderline scam companies. If they cannot handle retail sales, they shouldn't be doing retail sales.

Please do not encourage such companies here.

I remember getting these in a previous deal for my desktop and they came with no mounting screws (my desktop didn't need them). However, I'm considering getting another one now this time for my mini pc. Anyone know what screws would I need exactly to mount them?
Edit - When I contacted GMK (my minipc is a gmk nucbox 2) they said I needed "3.5mm diameter screws" but when I searched that on amazon I still don't get it XD
https://www.amazon.com/s?k=3.5+hd..._sb_noss_2

just search for 3.5 HDD or 2.5 SSD screws and you should find them. Most SSDs don't come with screws because they assume you are replacing one and not adding. If you had a 3.5 HDD before, the screw would work for the 2.5 SSD, tho the mount inside the case might or might not fit depending on how old your hardware is. If you purchase a 3.5 to 2.5 internal bracket [amazon.com], it will come with screws.

Got this for $83 back in 2019. Sucks to see that the company has scammed everyone out of warranty service. Hope mine doesn't croak.

On another note, I recall after buying this, seeing all the news about Chinese flash memory was about to flood the market and send ssd prices dropping. Never happened. Then covid hit and prices were supposed to soar. Didnt really happen. Then CHIA crypto happened and prices were supposed to soar. Didn't happen. Weird...

No. The higher tier Decks uses NVMe (which just looks like a chip in your hand).

How does this compare to the NVMe version
Get the NVME version if you want DirectStorage support for games.

My mini pc comes with m2 nvme stock, and has room for 1 more sata ssd.

Someone else will probably give you a better answer, somehow for me it remembered on both my pc and laptop. I think it saves to my microsoft account but I'm not totally sure how it works.

I actually have both the nvme and this sata version on desktop, the nvme version blows it away. But my computer only has 1 NVME slot so I still use both, but no contest on the nvme being my main drive.

You don't need a new license to run on the same laptop that has a licensed copy installed.

Older laptops used to have a sticker with the Windows product ID in the bottom side.

Some of the newer laptops that come with Windows installed will have the product code in the firmware, so Windows will automatically get it. It may ask for re-activation but this is automated and easy.

If none of the above work, the easiest way is to create an account at Microsoft and link the previous Windows installation to that Microsoft account before you re-install.This creates a digital license for that laptop. When you re-install, logging in back to the same account will fetch and reuse the digital license.

Not in the $400 model, and we won't know until Q2 2022 for the others.

EDIT: MIGHT be upgradeable, but definitely not this drive. If it is upgradeable, it'll be an M.2 2230, see here https://www.videogameschronicle.c...est-model/
