Even I have the same thought!! Is it worth to convert to unlimited 1.5% cb from single category 3 %?🤔
That's... pretty interesting....

I'd be sure and keep a copy of that if you take the offer

(which I would- I do have the travel card but never use it after having gotten its own signup-- this conversion would get me a SUB without a new account/hard pull AND let me ditch the premium rewards card that forced me to find value in the airline credit to keep getting 2.625% cash back on non-cat purchases)
I really should open one of these. Heavily invested in the bank of America ecosystem already. I get 5% back across multiple categories. This would be a great addition for flat rate cash back, but I already have a 2% card. Not sure it's worth a credit pull to get a little more

Was considering converting one of my cash rewards cards to the new unlimited card in hopes of qualifying for the $200 sign-up bonus. But I found this in the terms and conditions:

Bonus Cash Rewards Offer. You will qualify for $200 bonus cash rewards if you use your new credit card account to make any combination of purchase transactions totaling at least $1,000 that post to your account within 90 days of the account open date. Limit 1 bonus cash rewards offer per new account. This one-time promotion is limited to customers opening a new account in response to this offer and will not apply to requests to convert existing accounts.

If anyone has a different experience, please let me know.
My email offer didn't seem to specify that: Confused

Bonus Cash Rewards Offer. You will qualify for $200 bonus cash rewards if you accept this offer and use your new credit card account to make any combination of Purchase transactions totaling at least $1,000 (exclusive of any fees, returns and adjustments) that post to your account within 90 days of card receipt. This offer is only valid on the account identified within this communication and is non-transferrable. Allow up to 12 weeks after qualifying for the promotional Cash Rewards to be added to your Cash Rewards balance.

Is it really worth switching to this card. I received a physical mail too. Any genuine suggestions?

I don't see this on their site. Can you provide a link? I'm pretty bad at math and don't see how you get 2.62%.

The T&Cs you have below is from the application for new applicants. Converting and receiving $200 bonus is a targeted offer. I found no similar wordings about ineligibility of $200 bonus due to account conversion on my offer letter. You cannot just call BoA, request a product change, and expect to receive $200 bonus since this offer is targeted.

I think you don't know what you are talking about. Let me guess. You received a completely new card because your old card was a MasterCard. The Unlimited Cash Rewards is Visa, so BoA had to send you a new card with a brand new card number starting with a number 4.

There are many factors that cause a change on credit score. How do you ensure the change was due to your account conversion? How many points of change was it? You did not mention BoA had a hard pull on you so I assume they didn't. They're supposedly not to for a product change anyway.

Oh, by the way, if what you said is true and BoA was committing a fraud to shill you applying the card, you absolutely have the right to dispute whatever related to the new account showing on your credit report with all three credit bureaus.

Its a fraud.. they say its an upgrade but i got a completely new card which was never intended.. also it say it will not impact your credit score but it made a new entry in my exlerion score.. just another scam from BoA.

For customers who qualify for Platinum Honors status in the Bank of America Preferred Rewards program (holding more than $100,000 in deposits and investments in an eligible Bank of America or Merrill account), the card's earnings increase to 2.63% with 75% rewards bonus. 1.5% x 1.75 = 2.625%. More details here [forbes.com].

I have a BoA visa cash rewards card and i got the offer for upgrading it to unlimited cash rewards card with $200 cash back... i called BoA and asked to be upgraded... a week later got the new card in mail along with my credit score letter...already spoke to BoA rep and raised a dispute ..im disappointed n hopeless if anything can happen now as it has caused remarkable dent on my credit score...hence im trying to make everyone aware so that others can learn from my mistakes

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. That's much clear about your situation. The first thing I would like to say is it wasn't your mistake! It was BoA mistake! You made the right move to dispute it with BoA. As long as you still have the offer letter on hand indicating you were invited to switch, you have a very good odd to win the dispute. Such a product change should not impact your credit score anyway. In addition, your phone conversation with the CSR regarding the upgrade should have been recorded. BoA can easily retrieve the recorded conversation to verify their mistake. Although this is a rare mistake for a bank like BoA, it does happen. I am sorry for your experience and good luck to you.

For those who receive an invite for the switch and the $200 bonus offer, it'd be better to do the switch online with the registration code on the offer letter. The code ties to this specific offer and you will have everything documented when doing it online.

I received this offer online, clicked on the link and applied for the switch. The new card has arrived with everything same as before, expiry date, number, security code, and network. They have offered $200 bonus after $1000 is purchase over 3 months. I recommend this as well, and like others have mentioned, click and follow the link in your email.

Having my main Banking Account with BoA which I hope soon to change... and a few credit cards, I really dislike that they are so behind tech and you can't easily set up auto payment. And even when you set it up, it does not let you select minimum or current balance automatic monthly payments... You can only set up "x" amount of $$$ monthly payments which if it is more than the minimum you go - negative.

I mainly still use my Master Card there only when I need to do big purchases and I have no cash as I have 7-8% Interest rate as oppose to 14.99-15.99 on my other credit cards.

I received another, tinier (6.75"x10") version of the snail mail offer to convert my Travel Rewards card. It again advertises no foreign transaction fees, no credit score impact, $200 SUB after $1000 in 90 days, same account number, conversion of existing travel reward points to cash back. I'm planning on accepting using the link by the 8/31 date.

All of my BofA cards are set to autopay the statement balance. I set these up years ago so had forgotten it was a silly, unnecessarily-lengthy process, but it is possible:

Thanks OP, I snagged one. I already have the MC (red) rewards card, and this can help complement it. The MC rewards card is base 1%, 2% on groceries/Costco, 3% on category of your choice. But the catch on the 2 and 3% CB is that you only get that rate if the combined amount of category/groceries/Costco purchases is <$2500 per quarter, after which the CB rate drops to 1%. You can multiply all of those numbers by 1.75 if you are Platinum Honors (eg, 5.25% CB on category purchases).

With Fidelity, there is a 3% Visa card: https://www.fidelity.com/rewards/overview
Aside from the $2M you need in a Fidelity account to get that (vs $100k for BoA), you also have to pay to have your assets managed (0.2-1.5%), which negates any marginal benefit you get with 3% vs 2.625% from BoA.

As others mentioned, to get Platinum Honors (which boosts CB rate from 1.5 to 2.625 on this card), you need to have $100k in your BoA account (you would be crazy to keep that much $$ in your checking account earning zero interest) or a linked Merrill account for investing/retirement.

I have done that and the only way I can choose the "frequency" to monthly is if I use "other amount" which I have to specify the amount and if I have 0 balance it goes to negative and still does the payment. If I choose "Statement Balance," "Current blance," or " Minimum payment" it goes back to one time payment option and grays out.

Another way to get Platinum Honors is to move the money from Bofa Checking account once you get the status. The status stays valid for 1 year then it re-checks your eligibility.

The 100K balance is the average balance over 3 months. Therefore, if you had transferred 300K from an online saving account to Bofa for 30 days.. it will be (300K + 0 + 0) / 3 months = 100K. you will make their Platinum Honors status. Then you can move it once confirmed.

You don't need to keep the 100K in the checking for 12 months... a bit of work but it's worth it. but if you have IRAs and other brokerages with Merrill.. this would be a no one brainer.

From their website: "Your tier is based on your qualifying combined balances in your Bank of America® deposit and/or Merrill® investment accounts. Once you are a Preferred Rewards member, you'll keep your program benefits for at least a full year, so no need to worry if your balances dip temporarily. In addition, your balances are reviewed monthly to see if you qualify for a higher tier. If so, you'll automatically move to the next level of rewards."

+ personal experience qualifying with bofa using this method
