JetBlue, Delta and Expedia have round trip airfares travelling to and from New York (LGA and JFK) and Jacksonville FL (JAX) for $137, nonstop. These are basic economy fares, a restricted-type fare. On JetBlue you are only allowed one small personal item but on Delta Airlines, you're allowed an additional carry-on bag for free.

I am in NYC and most people only want to go to Miami.
Not saying it's a bad deal, just be aware of it that's all. The shorter the flight and the fewer the people flying probably the more tolerable it is.

Jacksonville the city would probably be very underwhelming for you, San Marco and riverside area (look up Five points) have some good culture and food.
About an hour south of the JIA is St Augustine which has a ton of history and food. Would avoid in the summer due to heat and heavy tourism.
Probably because we were in the thick of a pandemic. Were you the New Yorkers blaming Florida for all the COVID-19 cases while traveling here? I think so.

Jacksonville, not really maybe a beach weekend. That's about it, just my 2 cents.

Born raised in Jax. You could do some river / ocean fishing charters. Beaches. St Augustine is a great two-day visit. Orlando is close - theme parks and such. Also nearby are natural springs that are worth a day trip to float down the river
