Bad advice. Old one has a much better screen easier on the eyes. New one doesn't even have a film to make swiping smooth. You feel like you're swiping on countertop and all finger greese scraped off on to the screen. It has better speakers though. Cpus are roughly the same.

Newer doesn't mean better.

Is it possible to make the interface on these look like the old Fire from around 2013? My wife's reader of around that vintage is just about on its last legs, but she doesn't like the new UI.

Agreed … these things are not worth the hassle. It would be for a reader in the family a little cousin. She would use it only for that.

Wtf do you expect from a $50 tablet? It's fine for kids or just video consumption on an 8 inch screen instead of your 6 inch phone.

I bought two of these from QVC like half a year ago for $55 each with a case and offers included, it's obviously lacking processing power but for video consumption it's fine. Since I'm working from home I just have it on my desk playing YouTube or random videos, used Fire Tool to get rid of Amazon stuff and use Microsoft launcher. It won't wow you but for $40 it's a good deal.
