Product Info:
  • The latest segmented design works with softer, more stable midsole foam and slightly deeper flex grooves in the forefoot for a superb transition from footstrike to toe-off
  • Multidirectional mesh knit uppers add support in key areas, while allowing more space between the fibers to reduce weight and enhance breathability.
  • Durable FLYTEFOAM Propel technology is the lightest midsole material that ASICS offers, providing a soft, bouncy feel underfoot
  • I.G.S (Impact Guidance System) follows the natural progression of the feet from impact to toe-off to encourage a more consistent natural gait and running stride
  • Dynamic Duomax support system provides firmer foam support on the inside of the shoe with a softer layer of foam on top for added comfort
  • Gender-specific Space Trusstic technology integrates space between the midsoles and trusstic pieces for added stability and support inside the arch
  • Forefoot twist GEL technology combines softer material in the forefeet with GUIDANCE LINE midsole technology to position the feet for a more natural stride
  • Rearfoot GEL technology built into the heels absorbs shock when the feet make contact with the ground
  • TPU plastic heel counter support locks the heels in place away from the feet for less irritation and more overall comfort
  • Light AHAR outsoles feature sponge rubber that helps reduce wear and enhance cushioning
  • Super AHAR heel plugs made from higher-abrasion rubber are used in heavy wear areas to extend the life of the shoes

Kayanos are stability shoes for people that over pronate. The ghost and Glycerine are neutral shoes. In my opinion I think Asics is a better brand then Brooks. My dad switched from Brooks to Asics also and it cured his plantar fasciitis
If you want to see if these types of sneakers are for you, examine a current worn-in pair of sneakers that you own. Compare the outer heel of both shoes (ie: the right side of the right heel, and the left side of the left heel). If they are heavilly more worn-in than the rest of the heel, than you are a moderate over-pronator, and will benefit from shoes with stability. This is generally the case with people who have flatter feet with a low arch.

Gel Kayanos and GT-2000 are my go-to ASICS shoes for the past ten years. If you have an ASICS outlet near you, the prior season's shoes tend to have very aggressive promotions during the fall.

If you are a severe over-pronator, then motion control shoes are the next level up, but there is no free lunch...they tend to be VERY heavy. For these, I used to always went for New Balance, but their lineup has shrunken quite a bit, and never go on sale.

I have a few kayanos and they're not my favorite. Overall the shoe is just too bulky and heavy. I much prefer my dynaflytes.

Thanks for the feedback. I reversed the sides in my post. (I had to look at my shoes to confirm)

However, my original statement stands that flat-footed people have this issue the most. I was diagnosed with plantar fasciatis after my first job and have been more or less forced to use stability shoes for the past 13 years. However, not having to deal with rolled ankles is worth it.

Yeah growing up I thought everyone rolled there ankle on a semi monthly basis... I was extremely athletic, never realized it was my flat feet lol.

After wearing Kayanos/Beasts it finally dawned on me I basically never roll my ankle anymore. So nice, lots of other benefits but that is one I never realized was specific to my flat feet.

I had the Kayano 25, I can tell you that they tend to wear out very soon if you are running on a pavement. I track my runs and within 140 miles, I had no grip left. The shoes are great for longer runs and reduce stress on the ankles and feet. ASIC warranty refused to cover it because I had missed the 1 year mark. Sadly, I was one of those that bought this on sale and stored it for 6 months.

Yeah they haven't lasted long since the 21's. They started chasing light and trendy vs durability and lasting comfort.

Which ASICS would be the direct competitor of the Brooks Glycerine? I've been wanting to try ASICS and the Glycerine works well for me thanks.-

I've run with Kayanos since they were first brought out as the Kayano Trainer. I am a neutral runner and these evolved over the years into more of a stability shoe. These shoes have been many things in different versions. The first were very minimalistic and went through transitions that included big and bulky. I moved to the Quantum 360s and liked them even more. Not near as bulky and they just felt more responsive in everyday running. Their tops were also less stiff and more comfortable. In the 35 years that I've been running, I can say that I never had a shoe related injury. Then again, I would replace after 400 miles and alternate with a pair of Mizuno Wave Creations.

This is not correct.

See
https://www.zappos.com/c/types-of-pronation
and
https://treadlabs.com/blogs/insol...o-tell-you [treadlabs.com]

Outer heel wear = under pronation
Inner heel wear = over pronation
If the outside of my heel is chewed to all hell while wearing stability shoes, i assume that is a good indicator i shouldnt be wearing stability shoes then?

Great shoes, I've tried New Balance 1080, 880, and Nike free 5.0. This one has most support

These are the super-premium trail shoes but the regular ones (Asics Gel Kahana 8, Kahana 7, Venture 7) are more fantastic as they are $25 cheaper, at $49-$60 in price, and they are durable, and they are like 100-series running shoes (1050) vs. Kahana (200-series, 2050-class shoes). I frankly have owned many 100-series (Since Gel 101) and 200-series (Gel 2050 just 2Y ago) and can't tell a difference!
