Gel Kayanos and GT-2000 are my go-to ASICS shoes for the past ten years. If you have an ASICS outlet near you, the prior season's shoes tend to have very aggressive promotions during the fall.
If you are a severe over-pronator, then motion control shoes are the next level up, but there is no free lunch...they tend to be VERY heavy. For these, I used to always went for New Balance, but their lineup has shrunken quite a bit, and never go on sale.

However, my original statement stands that flat-footed people have this issue the most. I was diagnosed with plantar fasciatis after my first job and have been more or less forced to use stability shoes for the past 13 years. However, not having to deal with rolled ankles is worth it.
Yeah growing up I thought everyone rolled there ankle on a semi monthly basis... I was extremely athletic, never realized it was my flat feet lol.
After wearing Kayanos/Beasts it finally dawned on me I basically never roll my ankle anymore. So nice, lots of other benefits but that is one I never realized was specific to my flat feet.
