Honest question. If you had to pick between a Dell and HP with identical specs which would be the better choice? I'm trying to find a decent laptop for my mother in law. Seems like a decent processor, 8gb ram, and 256 ssd is somewhat avail. Wouldn't mind 16 GB 512gb ssd combo but those seem like a large jump for some reason. Like an extra $200. Intel or amd doesn't matter too much but battery life for her might be more prevalent than it would me.
With my experience i would go for dell. I owned hp laptops in the past which were poorly built. Buy hp if you are getting good steal like now.

So it's a guess based on another model. Got it.
And you didn't get the point but still trying to act smart...didn't get it.

What are the odds this machine supports 4k to an external monitor?

About 2 years ago I bought a laptop with a i5-1035g4 which supports 4k out through USB-C but the manufacturer didn't wire it up for that capability.
It supports 4K at 30 Hz as it has hdmi 1.4b. you need HDMI 2.0 for 60 Hz at 4k

There was a showcase on Youtube showing Genshin running with this CPU at almost 60 FPS with low settings. I believe they had upgraded the RAM to 16 GB though (2x 8 GB). It should be able to run Genshin though

In my experience, I'd chose Dell. Have 2 Dell laptops still running strong, and 2 (newer) HP laptops, one totally booked, the other on its last legs.

Of course, maybe newer stuff isn't built as well, maybe just got Friday afternoon special on HP, who knows...

edit: all that said, assumes same price for same specs. Not sure you can find a Dell with these specs near this price, SO...
i have had one of each and don't have any real complaints about build quality or life. i don't think you can compare brands, you have to compare specific models/lines. both have put out some utter garbage as well as some solid work horses. it's just a matter of getting a feel from the reviews for that line.

I had cheap HP a few years ago. The memory slot was on the backside of the main board. About 1 hr of work for something that should take a minute.
Good for you that it has all the slots at the correct side. Just pop open the back panel and you can access Ram, storage and even the wi-fi card.

I'd go with HP myself. Dell seems to put cheaper PSU units in their desktops and have cheaper manufacturing requirements overall. HP isn't great either but based on my limited experience they're superior.
