I just bought this laptop from Best Buy and it's not hitting any of the benchmarks. The first night it was fine, now the graphics card and processor are under performing. It was trying to use the discrete graphics card to game and so I fixed the setting, but the other issues are still persisting. Disappointing because I wanted to love this laptop.

Lol oh man here comes the chromebook crowd. If your use case is satisfied by a chromebook then you certainly don't need this. It is out of your league.

In this age and era 15.6" consider as a desktop. Unless you play games, anything above 14" is bulky and not portable to move around, that's one the reason I switch to Chromebook, where I can get under 2lbs, with awesome battery life because of Chrome OS.

If portability is really your primary concern you could also get a very nice laptop without a dedicated gpu plus a steamdeck for this price (well, in a while anyway). The 3050 ti is basically the worst price/performance option in the 3000 line.

I think you can buy the bundle from Best Buy but its stupid priced (like almost $2k more at around $3300). You do get 32GB of RAM as well (not like that's worth it though). ASUS' website store would probably be the best option but I think its been out of stock on there for awhile. The bundle is better priced though (I think its often listed for a couple hundred below the $2999 MSRP), still stupidly steep priced though, and the 3080 that comes in that I believe basically has the performance of a 3070 laptop card (due to a mixture of the relatively small enclosure limiting cooling, and also the eGPU aspect I believe causes a bit of performance loss as well), so its extra not worth it. I'm hoping ASUS adds more options for eGPU, like an actual desktop one. If the eGPU was priced at like $1k it would be a lot more enticing as well.

I think I'm gonna buy the laptop now as it fits what I'd want in a laptop, so even if they drop eGPU entirely this should be a solid do everything for me for awhile til either there's an Apple laptop/tablet hybrid that offers the general purpose computing capability this does, or there's an eGPU option that is more worth the price. I'll likely only do light gaming, but if ASUS offers a better eGPU I might actually buy it (although there's a good chance if I want better gaming performance I'll put that money toward a desktop or buy a beefier gaming focused laptop).

The resolution of this also fits my current monitor setup (24" Dell 1920x1200), and would be a good fit for my projector (1080p). I'm waiting still a bit longer to move to 4K (mix of things, DP 2.0 and HDMI 2.1+ to become common, AV1 to become common, the HDR stuff to get better sorted out, 4K Blu-ray availability of the movies I like, SSD prices to fall for more storage, 4K VR headsets, and hopefully 4K120Hz options for displays - I'm hoping for PC focused "non-smart" - in OLED and/or MiniLED).
