That thought came to me as well. Isn't it ridiculous? $600 handheld and we are thinking of playing 12 bit games on it. What time to be alive!

I've played through both of these games on Linux through Proton (which is what wll be used for the Steam Deck).

Currently, the games work and are fully completable. All achievements works (although both games have buggy achievements, but that is the same on Windows).

On Linux there are two issues. Occasionally, when opening the settings menu you will get a dialog box loop that displays a Japanese character, which force you to have to exit the game. The other issue is that save states do not work. They will crash the game. While this is inconvenient, you just have to make sure to beat the game in one sitting or use the old-school password system that the games have.

Valve is claiming that all games will be playable by the time the Steam Deck is released. Not sure if these issues will all be fixed, though.

The code ends after the A. Assuming you put it in correctly, it was active until the idle demo began, in which case you'd have to enter it again (also, if you screwed it up, you could just wait for the demo instead of resetting the console). You could hit select as many times as you wanted, or add another round of "B A" (which is why some people though it was uuddlrlrbaba), or anything you like. Displaced Gamers has an explanation video [youtube.com].

How so? These games can be emulated on a potato, seems like they should run great.
You would think so, but a lot of the retro games made to run on modern computers somehow are coded badly or something, and run sluggishly. Not true of every classic game collection, but it's something I've experienced a lot more than not. Much better of just emulating in most cases, they will look better and run much better most of the time. Neo Geo games in particular seem to be ported really badly in most cases. So always check the reviews first and if people mention things like slowdowns, go the emulation route... legally, of course! Wink

Wish game developers would put more time and effort into these classic collections, but I think they are mostly just trying to make a quick buck with selling old/classic games of theirs to a new audience or people looking for some nostalgia. Again though, it's not every game, some are ported great and run silky smooth with no problems.

To be fair, a lot of Neo Geo games run badly on original hardware. So that could be good emulation lol

I think it is. They actually have two versions of the game. One is the US version. There is also the EU version of the game called Probotectors, which is largely the same, but instead the main characters are robots instead of 80s-style action heroes.

Both versions are very difficult games.

I think I read that one of these collections has audio pooping issues on PC. Can anyone confirm?

Do these have a rewind feature in case to fall back to the point before dying? I saw some of the retro games distributed in Steam have that feature. I'm just wondering if this has a similar feature.

But I think the Japanese version is aliens, but also a sane difficulty level.
