How can you call it "old tech" when its replacement/upgrade is not even out yet?

Remember if you live in NYC area the Micro Center in Paterson NJ only charges 3.2% tax instead ofthe apporx 8.9 yet charged in NYC and Yonkers

Old tech? This is state of the art. Even the new 11th gen from Intel can't compete. If you think this is old tech, you should avoid giving computer advice.

According to Steam, 39% of gamers are still on 4 cores. 32% play with 6 cores and 13% play with 8 cores. Less than 1% play with 12 cores. Most people are on medicore PCs. If you play at 1080P then a Ryzen 2600 and Nvidia 1060 will get you through 90%+ of games. 12 core cpus are a waste for games as far as bench stats go.12 core cpus are a production thing. But some people ( Tech Deals on Youtube) say everything seems smoother (more cores = less swapping during multitasking) In any case a 5600 is fine. 8 cores are nice for future (consoles going 8 cores) but not a must have at this time. Alas Zen 4 isn't projected to come out until end of 2022. I'm going with 8core myself. I was jjust hoping for better mobos with more USB-C
Thanks for the response. I'm on a b550 motherboard at the moment. I will just keep the 5600x for now. Graphics cards are still hard to find but was able to get a 3090 from Newegg raffle and will just upgrade motherboard and CPU in 2023 or when needed.

I was having issues with the 5900x. Game kept stuttering. I think it was too many threads bit I'm not a computer expert. Will see how the 5600x runs. Hopefully no issues.

MY post said "NYC area." Most of the smart people have fled the city and are in the burbs now. They dont want to go to Brooklyn or Queens if NJ is almost the same drive (@ less shootins etc)
OK, bye bye!

But yes this is already outdated. Buying anything now without DDR5 support is just dumb.

No PCIE5
No DDR5
NO usb4

old tech.
It is also dumb if you are buying a soon to be outdated platform that supports

No PCIE6
No DDR6
No USB5

Intel Alder Lake Desktop CPUs and the Z690 platform are expected to launch on the 27th of October & will be the first mainstream consumer platform to utilize PCIe5.0 and DDR5.

Old tech Ryzen 7 5800X should be about $300 now and $200 after October.
Are you sure you can afford $300+ for 16gb of ddr5?

Would you really drive 185 miles to save $20 on a processor?
Bought it a few weeks ago from BH with their Payboo card $398 out the "door" when Microcenter has it for $380 + tax.
At 10% tax, even at current MC's price, I only paid only $2 more than having to reserve and drive 1 hour to MC.

It the dumbest to wait another year and pay premium for every hardware that can benefit from those new tech.
It will take at least another 2 year for those to drop to the price of current "old" tech.

Oh you mean the cheap one with no heatsink. Prices of DDR5 will be perfect when Zen 4 is out.

Curiosity how far away on a one way trip (in miles) was the best buy that gave you the discount from the that microcenter with the best price? To me that is just good business they are going to get your dollars in the future.
I used Google Earth to map a 25 mile straight line radius from the Micro Center. I tried the first Best Buy that was 24.5 miles away from the Micro Center, but they wouldn't price match. The store manager said they don't price match Micro Center. I then called up Best Buy and the phone rep said they do, in fact, match Micro Center, but this particular location was 35 miles away, according to their measurement. I then asked the rep to see if the second Best Buy is within their distance, which the rep confirmed that it was 15 miles away and so I went to the second Best Buy to get my price match. It was a bit of a hassle, but this was my first time price matching with Best Buy. Now I know where to go. Still saved me a 17 mile drive to the Micro Center.

That is so seriously good shopping. Glad it worked out. Now I know it must be 15 miles for a price match.

I can validate that. I was in Microcenter in Tustin, CA today. The price was between $1600 - $2100. They actually restocked 3070 & 3080 while I was there. But I didn't bother.
I was in the Flushing Queens location. Store looks like a homeless shelter .

Anyone know power usage? My prebuilt desktop came with a 5700g which sells for quite a bit but the tdp is only 65w on it. This one according to AMD website is 105w but the specs are so similar I can't imagine real life scenario is similar
Probably like 125w at full load. TDP isn't a measurement of power usage though, it's thermal design power, aka heat. Different coolers haven't different tdp ratings.

Speed of light quantum computing will be available at some point. I'd wait for that.
