I look at it as: 1200 minutes, 1200 texts, 3GB of data plus an additional 8GB when you can redeem rewards after 60 days. 11GB of data for a year is still low, but doable if you are often in wifi.
Can you give any details on the additional 8GB for redeeming rewards after 60 days? What is that? Looking at the tracfone website, I don't see anything about rewards.

3 for me too! Extending our 3 phones for a year for under $90 can't be beat. I generally just need to add a couple gigs of data throughout the year on my phones and we're good to go!
Curious what kind of plan you had before and what restrictions there are for extending. If you had an AT&T plan, can you only extend your plan if you brought another AT&T plan?

And how does it extend? If you had 3GB plan for 1 year, and you add this plan, does it give you a total of 6GB for the next 2 years?

Yes, it will extend 1 yr and add 1200/1200/3gb to your total.

You don't see the "Join Rewards" in black to the left of my account?

My mom has used this plan for years. She texts maybe twice a month and maybe 30 min of calls a month and around 150mb of data a month. This plan is perfect for her.

I reloaded her plan a few times and most of the time it was easy and painless. I did have one time where the SIM didn't have the minutes attached to it and I messaged TracFone and they fixed it through chat. This plan is definitely made for a specific type of person, if you're asking if this will work for you, then it probably won't because you would already know how little you actually need the cellular part.

exactly, cheaper than last sale also. Not sure what the limit is but don't think there is one, although not good if tracfone were to go out of business….
Tracfone has been bought by Verizon. Verizon is not likely to go out of business. :-)

Can the SIM be moved to a portable hotspot device if tethering doesn't work? Does it matter which of the 3 carriers is purchased? I'm thinking of using it as an emergency backup data SIM for times when I visit the parents as my existing T-Mobile service isn't always reliable there.

Never understood the glove box theory either. Peace of mind for what? You'll always have your primary phone. When would you ever use a glove box phone? The entire point of a primary phone is to use it when you need it. Do you have a backup for everything you use each day? Do you carry backup underwear?
I know it's hard to believe but people have actually lost their primary phone. Or had it stolen. Or dropped it and broke it. Or forgot and left it at home.

Having a backup phone for less than $3 a month is cheap insurance for many people.

Not sure about a hotspot device, but hotspot on a phone works. Using it right now. Have used AT&T and Verizon sims, both worked.

I read earlier comments that the Tracfone SIM will work in a Simple Mobile locked phone (2016 iPhone SE1).

But will it still qualify for unlocking after the 1 year of service or would they deny you because it wasn't 1 year on "Simple Mobile" service? Has anyone successfully unlocked a Simple Mobile phone with 1 year of Tracfone service?
