I've had one of these for a few years now, I use it almost daily working on the car/s! Mine was a gift, but I'm sure it cost more than $99...Super deal

How much better is this than a fuel version?

What if I grabbed this for the battery and sold the tool, so when a deal comes for the impact/driver kit I'd have an extra battery.

That article feels like it was written by an AI. Lots of repetitive statements with words only slightly altered.

I was really wondering what is the power/torque difference between fuel and non fuel.

Would someone be happy building a large deck with a non fuel impact driver?

the fuel tools typically have better specs than non fuel

but you can go on milwaukees website and compare them

This deal is for an older impact driver model. I believe that it only goes to 1,600 inch pounds of torque vs. the Gen 3 which goes to 2,000 lb or torque.

BTW, in case you weren't aware, Milwaukee silently released a new version of the Gen 3 Impact (which is jokingly called the "Gen 3.5"). To my knowledge, the only difference between the Gen 3 and Gen 3.5 is a re-design of the driver's collet (single ball to double ball with heavier gauge retention spring). Both the Gen 2 and 3 both suffered from poorly designed collets (bits coming out of the collet when under pull stress). You can see the Gen 3.5 vs. the Gen 3 tested in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jvjs2GZ9gg (skip to 8:43 to see the collet test).

Unfortunately both models go by the same catalog number (2853-20) so you'll need to go by the manufacturing date if you want to try and purchase a "Gen 3.5" for this impact driver (which I believe the redesign Gen 3.5 models start with the beginning of 2021).

True, but sometimes that's hard to do if it's in a box or you're ordering it online. My understanding is that the manufacturing date is also located on the box sticker as well.

Anyone have thoughts on Milwaukee tools versus Makita?

Milwaukee has more tool options with their battery lines (M12/M18) vs. Makita. I also tend to see way more SD's with Milwaukee vs. Makita.

Someone would be happy building a deck with a brushed impact from 2008.

When it comes to impacts Makita every single time. Makita makes the best impacts on the market. You couldnt possibly go wrong choosing either brand though because they are by far the two best brands.

Are they that much better than DeWalt?

The drill is never on sale been waiting on that. Average person will never use an impact. Can't really do anything a drill/driver can't. I guess that explains why it's on sale

I own all three brands. I think DeWalt is more tool specific rather than overall quality like Milwaukee and Makita.
