I have this machine and have been using it for about 8 months now, with upgraded ram to 16gb.

The bios (and Lenovo Vantage) give you the option to turn off the integrated graphics completely, and the USB-C has Displayport capabilities which I use with my Rift S for VR stuffs.

The bios also lets you overclock the GPU upto +200mhz. I have mine set to +170 as it gave me some issues maxed out at +200, but heat is still not a problem.

Both CPU and GPU stay below 75c at all times, even while playing DooM 2016 on Ultra settings at 2k resolution (which runs at about 80ish FPS).

The build quality is fantastic as well, it just feels well built and the screen hinges feel stable to me. Fans don't get very noisy either, not compared to the higher end GPU/CPU combos anyway so if noise is a concern I think you'll be happy with this.

I go through laptops like candy, because I have a hobby of testing hardware combinations and manufacturers just because I'm interested in what they can handle so I have a decent amount of experience. That being said, I think this machine is a great value for its price if you're looking for moderate portable gaming (even though it's hooked up to my desktop config 90% of the time, and still works great as such).

It appears it was clearanced to $499 at my local stores, but there are none in stock. It may be worth making the extra click to look at pickup options.

Compared to the HPs I've seen in this price range, Lenovo build quality is significantly higher. My Y700 is over 6 years old and still going strong as a desktop replacement during COVD (I use it in my bedroom as a backup office when my wife has conferences in the main office and my daughter is at the dining table).

Anyone know if the Lenovos are still an aluminum chasis?

Nice find. I would have jumped for that price. None by me.

Ugh is this worth $150 more than the Costco deal with a 5500u ($490 after taxes)? Use case is a teenager who will at most play roblox and minecraft with his friends. He has a better tower at home for heavier gaming. Costco also included a 2 year warranty (purchased with thier card)
