Obligatory, if you think you need drano, you should also get a pack of inexpensive plastic drain uncloggers. They'll work 90% of the time, pose no risk of toxic chemicals that might damage your pipes, your plumber, or yourself.

Regular price is 15 for $5 on amazon: (and they're reusable...)

Yup, this. 99% of the time the clogs are just hair or other material people shouldn't be putting down drains. I have one of these (not that brand) and it does the job very well. Give it a couple twists and turns when it's down in the drain, you'll be surprised at all the nasty crap you'll grab out.

This works very well. Apparently the risk to pipe damage only happens if your sink/shower is not draining at all. Since the draino sitting there stagnant will erode the surrounds over time.

But as long as it's draining slowly then it should be fine

You should always try a good old fashioned toilet plunger to breakup clogs. Whenever my tub drain starts running slow, this solves the problem. And it doesn't involve toxic chemicals.

I had a clog that was draining slowly. Poured some drano with this thought in mind and holy **** it clogged... Could not get it to drain... Tried snakes bought from Amazon and could not get it out. Had a plumber come in with an industrial looking snake made from the 1900s and oh boy he got all the nasty stuff out!

In conclusion, great deal! Whether or not it will work for you, YMMV

My drain is constantly clogging and these different types of cleaners only provide partial temporary relief but I have a fixed drain plug that requires tools to remove. I haven't tried these because I don't see how I could fit them into the drain. I wonder how people fit them down if they can't remove their drain plug

The clog you'll pull up will be big, so you pretty much need to remove the drain plug. You might need to use tools on some (consult youtube if you don't know how)

I could probably pull it off and I have done a fair job on some DIY projects but I've also had it go the other way. When I disassembled my TERRIBLY filthy stove hood fan I never got it back together (It was useless without being clean so that wasn't a huge loss). A similar thing happened with a dishwasher that was on its way out... I have built things but have bad luck fixing kitchen and bathroom stuff

I have something called "plumber's hero" that fires compressed air into the drain. It's been quite effective though you need to block off secondary/overflow drains or it will just spit crud out everywhere from that. Can be a bad time of the seal isn't just right on a nasty cloggged toilet or sink, but it generally does a good job. Plungers are very effective and you probably already have one. Snakes are great on most pipes, I think I will likely order one of those soon to decruddify a drain or two.
