I take it it that this will do nothing for the ring around the upper walls of the bowl and is intended mainly for the water level and below?
In that case, I find adding a splash of bleach to the bowl before bed every week or more often if need be (after last flush for the night) to be more economical. Leaving the bleach overnight leaves the bowl sparkly in the morning. For the win, dip the brush in the bleach bowl and give a quick scrub at water line, under the rim, and walls above water level.
I would love to see something automatic like this that I didn't have to look at (I think this item is unsightly) and I have stopped using tank additives since having gaskets and parts deteriorate prematurely on me. While replacing tank parts is not complicated, it's not fun either. I will admit to adding a capful sized splash of bleach into the tank every so often but because it only stays on there until the very next flush, I've noticed no harm. It's the slow dissolving pucks that continually treat the tank water with bleach or chemicals that could become a culprit.
Nobody likes a dirty throne.
Again, sorry for not adding any value to this deal in particular.
