EDIT 8/25: Thread originally is for ATT version but now looks like sane seller has the unlocked TMO version as well for $10 more. Brand new, warranty, ect.. the TMO version is better since it's using MediaTek 5G chip, the Dimensity 1000C, instead of the SD 765G, which is on all the other variants.

LG Velvet TMO variant $269

If your carrier is a GSM carrier, you need to call and talk to their tech support to find out what frequency band they are using, then check the frequencies for the phone that you are buying to make sure it supports all the frequencies (Bands) to make sure full compatibility. Please note, carrier branded phones may have some limited such as Wi-Fi calling when the phone is used with other carriers

I would not recommend unlocking bootloader, you'll be dealing Google Services issues which affects a ton of app. Stuff like Google Pay won't be working. Might be a patch somewhere that you can apply but do you really want you spend a bunch of time setting it up? I also suspect only main camera is accessible judging from third party camera apps but haven't touched custom fw since I learned of the Google Services issue
Not true. Google pay will work, but you don't know what you're doing. You sound very ignorant, and shouldn't spread false info. Google pay -- not Google play services, is the app affected by root and bootloader unlock. However, it's easy to address this.

I had Pay working fine on my rooted OnePlus 8 and Edge.

Kills it for me, as always. The struggle to find a proper unlockable or unlocked in all ways phone is real.
Doesn't that also allow the phone to be stolen and reactivated elsewhere vs locked bootloader which is paperweight if stolen?

Perhaps, but either way the result is the same: I'm out a phone. What I do care about in this case is my data. While an unlocked bootloader can make it easier to flash system or remove screen lock (disabling encryption), there are ways to defeat such with exploits and hacks on a locked bootloader. Samsung FRP can be bypassed even on locked bootloader to enable flashing a custom ROM, et al, etc (though I think recent firmwares may have rectified this 'issue'). Luckily, a hardware thief couldn't care less about the data...

Basically: most can be fine having a custom unlocked bl phone, and disregard a rare edge-case like theft. If they can replace the blacklisted IMEI and sell it...well... have fun.

I dont trust LG phones any more.
Latest V40 after 6 months of use, Finger print sensor not working.
Camera turned blank, battery drained, processor needs to replace, all sorts of hardware issues.
I will recommend stay away.

Bootloop, screen burn/off color issues, charging failing (phone will work but will not charge) - all issues in my family's history of LG phones none of which they acknowledged as a warrantyable issue.

I'm more than happy to see them crash and burn. They made good products but had shit support.

No.

1. Screen password, pin or pattern is needed to access TWRP. Unless your wife stole your phone I doubt a thief would know your code. TWRP can't decrypt a device without your lock method.

2. Google has reset protection. You can reset any android phone, doesn't matter if the bootloader is unlocked. If I steal your S21U I can easily hard reset it from Samsung's recovery mode. In fact, I did just that to fix my sister's Tab S7 after she forgot the pin.

After reset the device will start as normal. HOWEVER. It will ask for the previous user's Google account. This cannot be bypassed. Essentially rendering the phone useless

3. When a phone is stolen you're supposed to report it to your carrier. They'll blacklist it. Yes, the thief will still sell it for parts on eBay. Not much you can do about that

4. Thieves don't care about a random person's data. Even if they have your phone, everything worthwhile is protected by a lock screen, fingerprint or face ID

Uhh no, not all LG phones suffer from the infamous hardware "bootloop" issue. Pretty much affected G4/V10 devices

The bootloop issue on your G6 is not a widespread defect, and could be software related.

Isn't LG done with smartphones?

https://www.lgnewsroom.com/2021/0...worldwide/

"LG will provide service support and software updates for customers of existing mobile products for a period of time which will vary by region."
Wait, they had support???? News to me.

After being burned on a handful of LG products over the years I finally figured out never to buy their trash again.

Washer, dryer, fridge, phones, TVs even an air conditioner. All crapped the bed with zero support.

I am guessing its a no-no for t-mo? Which band is it lacking?
I use this exact phone on T-mob. I have a 5g sim and for a while I thought I could use data only.
Finally I found there is a setting to enable 2g! And now I can make and receive calls (on 2g I guess) and internet via 4/5g still works fine.

I bought this during a previous sale and it's pretty good. The only thing I don't like is how tall and skinny it is. oh and i don't like curved screens either. But for the price, I'm willing to live with those dislikes.
