I have the AX3200 version. It lacks monthly total data usage tracking for comparison with ISP's data meter (incoming data cap any day now).

I bought this router in February 2021. I had it sitting on an open wooden shelf in my office. After a few days use I picked it up and the bottom of the router was extremely hot. So hot that I felt it could be a fire hazard. I didn't feel comfortable with the heat level. At the least it could shorten the useful life of the router and at worst might cause a fire in my home. I returned the router after 10 days. Be careful.

If you have super hispeed internet (over 200mbs) you need an AX router to maximize the connection. My Asus AC1900 could only use around 250mbs even though i have 600mbs connection. Now I'm using the netgear RAX45 AX5700 and I can speed test over 600mbs.

Is TP Link any better than Netgear?

Spectrum charge for wifi router and my old backup was a Netgear N router (only 2.4ghz). The other Asus with tomato doesn't work, thought I would get something latest tech for less. We aren't internet hungry, only two mobile devices or TV, but I do wfh and need to keep signal solid.

It really depends. I've found recent year model net gears have been really unreliable and shockingly slow no matter the firmware update. TP link can have good models in amidst bad models. I been finding the only reliable router that I can recommend to anyone right now is TP link archer 9 or archer 7 have been pretty consistent with some friends of mine who had to upgrade their routers to have smooth zoom calls and it's been pretty good success rate so far. It's really not worth going for the new WiFi 6 or AX stuff right now because if your the average person who has any kind of computer or device, unless your running brand new 2021 all new high end, iPhone, iPad, PC or Mac and brand new high end smart TVs, the chances are your running hardware that will easily take advantage of the AC WiFi standard no problem. Even among roku TVs they have only recently begun using AC WiFi standards and many printers still rely on the old WiFi N standard. Also I've seen some of the new TP link AX models to be very problematic. Probably poor firmware but they haven't have yet to fix them. Lots of people having bad experiences with those models right now this year

How to you speedtest? WIth a laptop? If so does your laptop have wifi 6?
I'm wondering wifi 5 would limit speeds to less than 400 mpbs.

I have this, as others have said, it runs hot. Additionally I discovered that after a few days it's range dropped. After physically elevating it (from desk to 3ft higher, then later 5 feet higher) signal improved.

The older Asus ac1900 it replaced was reaching the range I needed without as much struggle.

This does not support open firmware. Never buy a router that doesn't. From past experience, routers from belkin, netgear, linksys required constant restart. Just not worth the hassle. I'd rather stick with an older router than have to deal with those problems again. Usually the chinese brands that support this, look for those.
Here are all the AX routers that support OpenWRT:

Belkin RT3200
Linksys E8450
Tenbay T-MB5EU
Totolink X5000R
Ubiquiti UniFi6 Lite
Ubiquiti UniFi6 LR

My Walmart has had a Netgear AX3000 router on clearance for $99 for a while. Sorry I don't have the model number on hand, but worth a look.

Do these support OpenVPN client mode? I have an tp-link A7 that supports VPN server. I'm particularly looking for one that supports the client mode.
