Yes, it's relatively safe compared to most large cities in the USA. Stay in the historic center, Juarez, Roma, Condesa and Polanco and you'll be fine. There are pick-pocket scams on the metro but Uber is dirt cheap. Great city and the locals are super friendly.

Just chiming in to agree with rrapynot.

Mexico City is awesome. Food is cheap and amazing (a friend and I had like 15 pastor tacos, a few beers and two cokes for like $12 US), the city has some beautiful areas, and assuming you exercise common sense, is very safe.

Yes; it's the same as any other large city. It's much, much more dense and large than NYC. Same with any other urban area, you have to know where to go, and where not to go if you're not familiar with the area. It's a city that offers so much, whether architecture, food, history, etc. Easily one of my favorite cities in North America.

Shitttt, I'm not sure what news y'all are watching but I always see there's killings happening there. From apnews "Mexico City - Mexico's homicide rate remained high in 2020 despite the coronavirus pandemic, with a decline of only 0.4% compared to 2019, the government reported Wednesday.
Authorities hailed the decline to 34,515 homicides in 2020, but that was only 133 fewer than the 34,648 committed in 2019. The decline is equivalent to just over one day's worth of the average daily homicide toll of 95 killings"
Mexico City is safe for tourists if you use your common travel sense. Stick to the rules, don't wander off and explore the city without a guide if you want to go further than the touristy areas. Don't wander late at night in side streets. Mainly, don't try and muscle in on selling drugs. Those people get killed, not tourists.

Homicide rate for sure way higher than big cities in US. I live in San Diego, and the homicide rate goes up almost 10x the moment you go into Tijuana. MOST of the violence doesn't impact tourists, but there IS a little unlike only several years ago. In Mexico, and much of the world, the general rule is you're safe if you stay in tourist areas.

Doubling this comment. The food is great and more amazing restaurants within walking distance.

Reforma is a safe neighborhood in the city.

One of the most amazing cities I've visited. We were there twice last year, stayed at the Marriott on Reforma and can confirm, that area is super safe and tourist friendly. Amazing, amazing food, beautiful clean city, easy to get around particularly on the bike share, and it's extremely cheap to have a good time. I still dream every so often, of the churros from ChurrerĂa El Moro dipped inn chocolate sauce.
