Anyone have experience with this brand or model? If it's decent, this is a good price for a press.

My family has been using ones made by CucinaPro for the past 20 years or so, mostly because we haven't found another brand that works better. They're good enough, but I've been on the lookout for one that presses thinner for awhile.

Can anyone sell me on the reasons why I would buy this and make my own versus just buying from Costco? Is the quality really that different? Or is there some other function of home-made tortillas I'm not aware of, like different ingredients or something?

It really depends upon your standards. You will not find artisan, single-estate tortillas at Costco.

Ordered this last week. It does make good rotis. Was a good deal given that it sells almost double the price on Amzn. You can make tortillas, rotis or pita. Note that it still makes one at a time, so not for big families unless you use it to press and cook it on multiple pans. And yes fresh made tortilla or rotis taste way better than store bought ones.

I have one. It's OK. Pretty half assed design/construction. Only the bottom heats up. Plugging in turns it on and you can't set heat to zero. The edge connected to hinge is higher than free edge so can't really get an even press when going for thinner and larger size tortillas. I worry about pressing too hard trying get them thin; the arm does not seem sturdy enough. Might be fine for thicker applications. Ridiculously short power cord.The nonstick does work well. 3 stars if not taking into account price.
