Scooter rentals started in the USA with Xiaomi models, so whoever wrote that article doesn't know what they are talking about when they imply that it was their way into the US scooter market. They pretty much established/owned that market already. The two big ones are Ninebot and Xiaomi, both Chinese and both competing, regardless of Xiaomi's past investment that predates Ninebot retiring the transporters.

I was in Paris in 2019 and there were a ton of people riding these around the city going 25/ 30 miles an hour. I was surprised how fast considering most weren't wearing helmets.
There is no way these go anywhere near 25-30 mph. The fastest one only goes about 19. This model only does about 12 (unless firmware unlocked in which case it can do about 15, but with less range).

Ehhh I feel like if you aren't handy it's very dicey buying these. Bought a hover 1 last thanksgiving. Ride it a few times, nice and smooth older kids enjoyed it on a camping trip, zero rough use, next time picking it up it's dead- fully charged, won't turn on. Daughter fiddles with it and gets it to reset and start again, it works a few times and now it seems fully dead. No support at all no troubleshooting, no answer at all from customer support. Was a week outside warranty window. Can't find any online info on these scooters to help

Fyi the NYT rated the G30LP and it's brother the Max (original) as the best scooters for 2021. The G30LP is a brand new, cheaper, very slightly lighter model (39 v 42 pounds), with significantly less range (rated 25 miles v 40 miles by manufacturer; real world testing is more like 20 miles v 30 miles depending on your speed (eg in sport mode you'll get less range than in eco or standard modes).

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-electric-scooter/amp/

Keep in mind that if the E22's scooter's range is listed by the manufacturer as 15 miles, real-world range will be even less, possibly even under 10. That means this scooter may not be a good idea for anyone who needs to go more than 4 miles in any direction - unless they can spend several hours recharging before returning home.

12 mph max speed is horrible prob means even slower than that depending on your weight.
TBH 12mph on a small wheel scooter feels pretty damned fast. These are probably for small campus/city commutes. Segway does make some higher end scooters that go close to 20mph though.

OP- have you looked at Razor's offerings?

I agree with this. I have an ES4 that'll do 20+. Anything faster than 15 mph gets real sketchy.

I'm in the market for an electric scooter for under $500. I'd like to learn first before buying some of the more expensive ones. Is this good for beginners or is there something better in the $500 range.
I purchased a HiBoy S2 pro off Amazon for 599. Check it out. I love it.

Sorry newbie here. How to get $50 off with PayPal?
go to the search bar and enter Target, you will find a thread that tells you how. It is only for selected users, but most of us should get it.

12mph is equivalent to running a 5 minute mile. That's nothing to scoff at. Why would you want to go more than 10 miles on a scooter anyway? In other words, even if you could go 20 mph, you would need to be on the scooter 30 mins to go 10 miles at 20mph. who would do that? at that point either get an ebike or a vespa, or a cheap ev like a nissan leaf.
12 mph speed is actually decent i was more concerned with the fact since 12mph is its "max" speed. What would the real word performance be like depending on the riders weight and like a another poster said incline of a route. Could that possibly drop it down to maybe 8-10 possibly? Just like "max range" will never be that unless certain conditions are met. These theoritical max outputs being advertised are usually achieved under certain conditons. I usually walk if its 1-3 miles, 3-5 ill take the scooter and anything more than that would be the car.

I'm relatively new to scooters, and I'm not a speed freak at all. But I wouldn't recommend anything rated below the standard 15.5mph. This just means it will be that much worse on any little incline and range will further suffer. My super cautious and non-athletic spouse would complain about 10-12mph.
100% agree. 12 mph is way too low. I have g30 max and I do enjoy the top speed of 18mph. At 12 it feels very slow. Plus as you said, it will barely climb any incline.

Keep in mind it can be unlocked very easily to 15 mph but range will suffer and it's not all that great to begin with. Still, at this price...

How does this scooter compare to the Gotrax Elite that was posted a few weeks ago? bought one of those but am thinking about canceling my order for this one.

Also to mirror what someone else said in the thread: I looked in my paypal deals and initially couldn't find the target 10% discount. Looked again later that night and there it was. I clicked on the target deals they did have so maybe that told their algorithm to show me more target stuff?
