Hi, wanted to post in a busier forum section, can move if not allowed.

I am trying to pick up skills at the "late" age of 29 and wanted to try coding a bot that checks different common products for deals. Does Slickdeals use something like this? Or DealNews. Also asking on my Discord because I know the guy in charge programs something to check different website stock. Thanks

I made a bot once that did this on Slickdeals. Basically it emulated a browser and I had it hit the Hot Deals forum at random intervals throughout the day and extract the topic list with all available metadata for each topic. I then had an an algorithm process the metadata and send me an SMS message if it found anything of interest. Specifically I looked for topics that showed an abnormally rapid acceleration of interest. These types of topics are often indicative of very hot and short-lived deals. One example would be the Lenovo coupon error a few weeks back that lasted an hour or two. The bot worked well but as time went on these types of deals were so few and far between I dropped it. It's written in C# and if you want the source code I can share it. I'm pretty sure there are technologies better suited to the task but C# just happens to be my forte.
