Hi all,
I've been a Discover Card user for quite a while, strictly for the cash back. I realize there may be better general purpose cards available, so I didn't want to debate the benefits of Discover vs. others, but I did want to inquire more about getting benefits from Amazon's (Prime) Rewards Visa card as this one caught my eye.
My wife and I are avid Amazon shoppers and looking to establish a second rewards credit card. I was interested in the 5% rewards for Amazon purchases through the Amazon Rewards Visa card.
A couple of specific questions, as Amazon was of little help when I called:
Thanks!

A couple of specific questions, as Amazon was of little help when I called:
- Can we get a joint account, each with our own card? Ideally, we'd like to have one account to have to pay, but each of us would have our own credit card with our individual names on them.
- We are Prime members, each with our own Amazon account, but I carry the Prime membership through my account. My wife shares the benefits (not through Amazon Household, I think we have some legacy setup that allowed us to share Prime benefits with more people than Household allows). Will we each be able to order through our own Amazon accounts and both be able to receive the 5% reward benefit, or is that only available when the purchases are made through my account since I am the official Prime member?
- Is there an essential thread to read about the Amazon Rewards Visa account? Our interest is strictly for the 5% benefit. We would plan to pay in full every time. But I've seen some poor reviews on Amazon's own website for the card. Would just like to make sure this wouldn't be a bad choice for our purpose.
Thanks!

I have an Amex Amazon Prime card (same 5%, plus other benefits), with my wife an authorized user on the Amex card.
Previously I had a Chase Amazon card that only gave me 3%. I had Prime by being a household member of the legacy setup you were talking about. I did the math and realized I'm better off paying for Prime to get that additional 2% cashback.
My wife uses her Amex Amazon card for her Amazon purchases, and I use mine. Amex breaks down the transactions by the authorized user tied to the card.
There's a way to share your Amazon account payment methods with other household members, but I saw no benefit to this.
It's astounding how much we spent with Amazon in the last 12 months (we had a lot of life events take place), but this year alone that 5% cashback amounted to almost $1k.

Thanks @branson. Can you clarify for me:
You are am Amazon Prime member (which I am). Does your wife have a separate Amazon Prime membership or is she linked to yours?
Your wife has a separate card from the same credit card account. Does she also make her purchases through her own Amazon account or does she make them through yours?
Thanks.
I finally applied for my Amazon Prime card with my wife as "authorized user".
I will make purchases from my account (which has Prime) and she will make purchases from hers (which is a legacy family member to my Prime account).
I am still not sure how this will work - if she will get the 5% or the 3% - once we get the cards and and both get set up. When I read the fine print, it appears as if Amazon purchases will earn 5%, so long as the card is active on my account (the one with Prime). This would lead me to believe that she and I will both earn 5%, but I won't be sure until it's confirmed.
If anyone else has insights until then, please chime in. Thanks.
