I got both sets. And they suck. If your impact has a hog ring don't buy. They wobble around. They are only good if you have the with the little ball Detent kind of impact.

19mm is pretty large for a 3/8" drive. 17mm and above and I'm reaching for 1/2" drive.

I do the same. But it is interesting that the SAE set comes with a 3/4, which can be used in place of a 19mm, while the metric set skips the 19mm.

Great price OP, thanks. Bought a Ridgid 3/8 impact wrench about a week ago and these deepwell thin walls should work great with that impact wrench. Esp on thin wall impacts, which are more likely to be damaged than standard thickness sockets, it's hard to beat HD's super easy lifetime warranty policy.

What the main benefit of an impact socket over a standard one? Is it just rated for a higher torque so less change of damage or do they have better grip or anything like that?

Standard impact sockets as opposed to thinwall--different tools for different jobs.

Different alloys and no plating on impact sockets. Impact sockets are slightly softer and the chrome plating on a regular socket can split and cut you badly.
