The chances are that the virus will get to you before it gets to the filter. Live alone - that's the solution.

Your comment is irrelevant if someone can only use the 1 inch filters

How did "used-like new" show up?
Slightly crushed some tearing to plastic. No brainer to buy (bought twice so far) if there is a substantial discount.

You are mistaken, more filtration by nature is more restrictive.
Quote from Sentorial :
Well, not to his defense or anything, but different companies have different setups for the filters, and each brand has varying airflow, even between the same MERV ratings.

Project Farm on youtube did a pretty cool video on this.

Anyone know if these restrict airflow too much? I tend to go with a medium grade filter because I'm not sure these things block too much of the air flow? My wife always want to get the highest one.
Quote from MadPup :
I think it is you who has been eating bad info. It's not a given that higher MERV filters will have more pleats. And you understand that the filters are for both heating and cooling, right? Tsk! :shakehead:
there is a lot of misinformation that gets posted on these air filter threads. here is some actual real world data (see attached graph). while there is some variability from brand to brand. there is not a significant difference in TOTAL AIRFLOW between higher MERV and lower MERV filters (Less than 5%). this is due to the extra surface area provided by the pleats. this is one spec they don't publish, so always look for a brand with more pleats to minimize any difference.

the important fact to note is that since airflow values are for NEW filters. by definition they filter out a lot more dirt and required much more frequent filter changes. in my area where we are using the AC a good bit in the summer (Or heat in the winter), i end up changing these about every month to maybe 2 months tops.

Bought a 4-pack of these recently (24x30x1). It didn't fit the opening. I had to kind of crinkle one end in to get it to work. This was my first time using this brand (Honeywell and Rheem previously). I had no issues with them fitting. Not exactly sure how you can screw a measurement up, but they did it here.

Fair enough, but if you're going to provide a chart then you should also provide your source. Not every source provides quality unbiased data.

Go to your local Home Depot and examine the cheaper filters there and tell me that those brands are increasing their pleats with MERV rating to reduce static pressure.

tldr; to avoid airflow related problems pay the money for quality brands and change your filters regularly.

Can we all agree on that?

Thank you. They say add 'proof of purchase' from each filter. Would you cut the sheet and just send in that section (barcode and PoP label - or the whole big sheet?

Last time each filter came in plastic bag which had bar code. I cut out that barcode and sent that as proof of purchase and got the rebate.

merv 12 no way stay away unless u wanna buy a new hvac soon
3M Filtrete specifically does not have this problem. Their MERV 12 has less pressure drop than their MERV 5.

Their MERV 13 actually has the lowest pressure drop. (Most air flow)

Just a comment...
A family members does heating/AC for a living and gets me Honeywell 11 merv 16x25x4 filters and I think they hover in the $6-10 range from the supply house. The retail markup on these is insane.
