My local Walmart had several of these in the clearance isle. Seems like the battery and charger alone cost way more. My store had three available of the 12", three of the 15". Several other Hart attachments were on clearance as well.

I have a 20 volt Black & Decker trimmer, and it is not nearly as powerful as a corded trimmer on Bermuda grass, but I love the convenience. Hoping I can snag a 40-volt on clearance to compare.
https://www.protoolreviews.com/ha...er-review/

Most 18/20v trimmers that don't have brushless motors are fine for small lots, fine grass. Vary from 5lbs~ light to medium heavy. (Watch the back if one buys a heavy model.)

Brushless models are more powerful, and often can replace the corded for suburban lots with 1000-3000 sq ft lawns.

40v are generally a step below gas, but very powerful for most. Heavy - no way around it.

The very top rated will be gas-like.
Protoolreviews.com reviews a ton of trimmers, especially battery mowers.

Does anyone know if Hart batteries are any good? I have a bunch of black and dekker 20v lawn equipment and unfortunately, the 20v batteries stop holding a good charge after a year.
Same company that owns ryobi.

https://batteryuniversity.com/art...-batteries

Are you charging them to 100% then storing them until the next use?

That's VERY BAD!
LIION BATTERIES DO BETTER AT PARTIAL DISCHARGE (50-70%) in storage, then charge up the day before use.

Also, ALWAYS take it off the charger once it hits 100! Don't keep it in the charger.

The other issue is battery sizing vs the amount of tool use each time

While liion batteries can handle 100% to zero discharge during use, that Really strains the battery and shortens life.

Eg. If a 2 mAh battery runs out each time you trim the lawn, it is undersized for battery longevity. Using a 4mAh that only discharges 50% will result in less battery strain and longer battery life.

Of course, they'll all wear out, so up to you if you want to replace 2mAh batteries more often (cheaper each battery), or a 4mAh less often (but at a higher price each).

Great devices so far, but I have very little faith in their batteries. Got the mower and the trimmer (stupidly bought the trimmer without the battery, despite it being a good deal and there being more than enough reason to have a second). I got the fast charger as a free promo with the mower (and had to hound them relentlessly to honor it).

Damn battery is constantly flashing red when put on the fast charger, so the hour that they claim is practically fictional. I have very little faith the battery will hold up well long term.
Fast charging on some brands only kick in when the battery is below a certain charge (like 25%'or 1 bar out of 4 on my skil 12v pwrcore). Higher and it'll regular charge.

Got the 15" for $60.xx but it took some persuading as it rang up as $86.xx. Print out the Brickseek page with the picture and price if you want to pick one up.

Had 2 each of the 12" and 15" left in Prescott, AZ.

Apparently on the Hart fast charger a flashing red light indicates a fault, typically because the battery is too warm and the charger has to cycle down. Unfortunately, this happens too often, rendering the 'fast charge' capability useless.

No clearance prices near me yet, but it's definitely worth checking on clearance items daily. Having a spouse that does clearance markdowns from time to time.. each Walmart location does price changes at different times and the amount they are marked down is dependant on the supervisors in that particular store. Good Luck to everyone and don't stop hunting!! 👍😊👍

The supervisors can override the pricing but the markdowns are generally system determined based heavily on inventory levels and sales history for that location.

Thanks for the heads up on this! Picked up a bunch of Hart products on "clearance". I guess I'll start the 'blue and white' arsenal of tools.

Heads on bundle kits of string trimmer / blower + battery @ $25 shipped as well as the 20" push and assisted lawn mowers @ $50 shipped. Idk if it varies between Desktop and Mobile but I used the Walmart App ... was searching "Hart" and found a bunch of stuff for $25 or $50 ... $5 batteries too.

If one is trying to charge a just-used battery, it'll always be warm/hot.

Can't do much about this since fast charging a hot battery will likely make it explode.

I have the 40v chainsaw and have used it to cut a ton of firewood. Got some extra batteries and a fast charger off of eBay (that I assume were stolen from a Walmart). It should last a few years. It had been years since I last sharpened a blade but it didn't take long to relearn.

Bought the 15-in brushless trimmer today for $75 and the pruning chainsaw attachment for $26. I want to get the hedge trimmer attachment but passed at $39 at the store I was at today.

That's the problem - it's not a just-used battery. It's a battery that's been idle for some time before it hits the charger, starts off fast charging then quickly cycles off with a flashing red light.

Not sure if there's a design issue there with either the battery or the charger, but that's not 'fast charging' in any way, shape or form. I'm surprised that Hart's batteries are so poor because I've had relatively good experience with Ryobi's One+ line, but the 40V batteries are a different animal and maybe there are more functional differences between Ryobi and Hart than just the cosmetic/pinouts.

Crap low end batteries then....

(E.g. No issues fast charging my Skil 12v pwrcores even after a half hour of cutting wood...)

...or maybe they are old and need a few discharge cycles? (Charge full, run to 1 bar, repeat.)

..or maybe charger is bad?

...

But read the manual!!

On my Skil, it's bright green when I push the fast charging with a battery at 1 bar. After 15~ minutes to fast charge part way, it'll switch to regular charging the rest of the way with a blinking light.

Regular charging is a solid light all the way full.

So are you reading the light correctly? Or is it simply going from initial fast charge (at low battery charge levels) to safe regular charge ( from some predetermined, lower than 100% charge level to 100%)?

All phones are like this, too.
Eg my lg charges fast up to about 80-85%, then regular charges to 100%.

...

Anyways , if it isn't right, contact Hart and maybe get free replacements?

I've had my black and decker tools for 5 years now and the batteries are still going strong. I think rechargeable batteries need to be used. If you just let a battery sit for 9 months in a year it's going to go bad.
