You need to stay will Cricket for 6 months to unlock the phone. However, the $180 that you paid for the 3 months of unlimited services can be downgraded to $30 monthly plan to stretch it to 6 months, which will make you eligible to request for a unlock.

180 days of active service. It's actually more like 175, as I unlocked from a previous deal at that point to avoid paying for another month.

Also, if you move the SIM to another phone it will 'break' the required service time. Some people say you can 'resume' the clock by moving it back, but others say it starts over at 0 again. I didn't want to risk it, so I left it in the iPhone and paid for 6 months total (basically this deal gives you six months prepaid service you switch to the $30 plan with only 2gb of data). Earlier deals would only make you pay $60 or $120, and you could use referrals to help lower future cost some.

From my understanding, it has something to do with the 1 month limit for each deal posted. After a month, the deal will be marked as expired even if it is still ongoing. I think that's basically why the deal was reposted 3 times.

I got this deal in july and it's been great. The phone comes with a simcard if you choose to get a new number and 180$ is in your cricket account. as soon as I activated it I switched to 30$ so I can use the plan for 6 months and unlock the phone. P.S. This iphone does not come with the charger brick

I don't know if its still possible. I have a $160 dollar 5 line unlimited plan. Can't I just add it as a 6th line? down grade service day one then stop it on the same account and the credit will already be in my account. In the past like long ago on the S9 I opened it as a port in new line, got the phone and just didn't activate it. I just put my chip in from the active line I already had. But if I cancel with the credit already in my 5 line account won't it already be there? I have no worry about losing a grandfathered plan.

What happens after 3 months? Any plans similar to Tello's? I don't need a lot of minutes, just data and text. Oh wait, so you have to continue with the $60 plan? I guess this deal isn't for me. Trying to find a good solution for leaving Tello now that my Moto z2 force won't be a useable device anymore.

If you search for referral code, check the post date of the referral link. I found some that are not working. I assume because the poster has gotten their 10 signups already.

Why do you say you have to continue with $60 plan? When I did this same deal a couple months ago, you can end it at any time... though you've already paid the $180 for service so might as well use it up. Also, by switching to the 2GB $30 plan the same day in your online Cricket account, you can stretch that same $180 to 6 months and get the 180 day free unlock.
Quote from UniqueMeerkat352 :
To switch the plan to $30 for 6 months, do you do it after ordering the phone? Or change it when ordering online?
Well, you can't 'switch' plans before even ordering, now can you? The 3 months unlimited service is what's offered as part of the deal after all. Yes you can switch after starting service. Just log into your online account after you begin service and switch to $30/ month plan. You can do it later, but if you don't do it the first day, you're stuck with the $60 plan for the first month.

To clarify- If I just want a new, backup iphone for wifi only would this be a good way to acquire?

Would I then be able to take the phone to Tello after the 6 months if I get one of their sim cards?
