MrEnigma is right, last time a ordered a "frustration free" lego set, it was the retail box in a tight, form fitting, lego printed cardboard box with shipping label (not an Amazon box).
Also in the Q&A answered by Lego customer service:

Q: What is Frustration Free Packaging?
A: Hi there!
With Frustration-Free packaging, your set will still come with the normal LEGO® packaging and will ship in a regular cardboard box. This cardboard box will say LEGO® Building Toys on it.
For more information on frustration-free packaging, you can head to Amazon.com/frustrationfree.

They may have changed it, but all the frustration free lego I've ordered come in the lego retail outer box, with the lego set and box as you would expect.

I believe it's the same box, just what that box is in, usually means a lego outer cardboard box, which is usually nicer anyways.

FYI, the price appears valid only for the "frustration-free packaging" option.

The original retail packaging is not on sale.

In case anyone has never seen an original retail Lego box... it's incredibly easy to open.

Which leads me to believe the "frustration-free" packaging is their attempt to re-sell returned sets which had damaged boxes as 'new'.

May not be a big deal for some.

edit

Thanks to comments below it appears the frustration-free packaging still comes with the original retail box as well. Very nice!

If you can't open normal Lego packaging you likely can't put the set together anyway...

If you find it "frustrating" to cut 2 pieces of tape to open the box, and tear thin plastic bags I don't know what to say 🤦

I appreciate the response but I don't believe that is the case.

All "frustration-free" packaging I've received in the past (granted they weren't Lego) did not come in retail packaging. It was basically a simple cardboard box.

What you are describing -- putting the retail box inside another box -- doesn't align with the purpose of the frustration-free packaging.

If that's the case then I may go ahead and order one.

Thanks for the clarification!

I have had the same experience as MrEnigma - most of my frustration free Lego orders have come in the box that Lego ships with from the warehouse. Occasionally, I will get an Amazon box. You can usually mark the order as a gift to ensure you get the Lego set in a box.

I am convinced. I've had my eye on this set for a while.

If anything the "frustration-free" packaging sounds even better protected.

Thanks everyone who chimed in with their experiences!

This is more like the one for which Amazon gives you the warning along the lines of "it will be incredibly obvious what is inside this box!"

Good luck!

The last time I got frustration free packaging it was the actual LEGO box with a shipping label on it. No outer box at all. When I went to complain the chat support told me not to order the frustration free option.

This has been my experience regardless of which option I choose with any larger boxed set ordered from Amazon. It's always a shipping label slapped on the actual box and trashed to hell.
