Both of my local costco locations Irvine, CA and Tustin, CA restocked with 30+ last Friday. Picked up 2 for the parents.
While I have not had the MX3, I did have an MX2. They're nearly identical, better laser etc.. in the MX3, however the overall design and operation, 97%.
The MX series is hands-down a more "premium" feel device. From just holding it like a new born baby, to the scroll wheel. Everything has "weight", making you feel like king of the horde while slaying your PowerPoint slide. The USB-C charging is pretty neat. Out of habit, I was just charging the mouse every week or so, but you can also use the mouse, while it's charging. The mouse overall, the MX2 is a tad large for my hand. I felt I had to push my fingers forward sometimes while clicking. MX3 is specified as being a hair smaller, so maybe it will feel different.
This, or the M720 mouse, it's not as "premium", all around. It's not as cheap as that corded mouse with the retractable cord, but if you get the MX series first, it'd be a hard comparison. Also better than you Microsoft 3000 dongle mouse. The scroll wheel, oh man, you're gonna be feeling really guilty after using the MX series. In nearly every shape or form, the MX will feel more premium. A single "A" sized battery will last me a couple solid months, if not more.
Both series also have a "thumb push down" button, where by default, it'll alt+tab window for you. They also both have a nice scroll feature, where it has two modes, "SUPER FAST" and line by line. These are interchangeable by clicking the button under the scroll wheel. They both also have forward and reverse thumb buttons. The MX series, the buttons are slightly smaller, but don't seem out of place. It's all aesthetics.
They also can "pair" up to 3 devices, either via Bluetooth or 2.4?Mhz dongle.
You might be thinking "wow, that MX series mouse sounds awesome!"
Here's what sells me on the M720/Precision Pro, over the MX series.
Biggest deal breaker with the MX series is the selection method. If you want to switch systems, you have to physical lift the mouse, and the selector mode is a tiny button on the underside of the mouse. WHAT? Given, a mouse is weighs less than a couple oreos, if I was actively working on 2 devices, or even 3, picking up the mouse to change, seemed rather cumbersome. The M720/PP the selector switch is near the back/forward buttons, allowing you to click with your thumb which device you want to be connected to. HUGE WIN.
The second, is dongle storage. The MX series mouse has no opening for a battery. Just an open USB-C port to charge. There is no where to store your dongle. So, unless you use alien tape to secure the dongle to the mouse itself, it's gone. You'll never find it unless it's plugged into a computer. The 720/PP has storage for the dongle, and with a dremel, you can fit 2 dongles. I prefer dongles due to bluetooth connectivity seems to have more of a delay/connection time than RF.
