This didn't work in my bath tub at all even used generously with hot water. It is bad for pipes and the environment. "Do not use this instead vinegar and Baking soda."

My family used to use something like this, but 'stronger' because the jug came in a thick plastic sealed bag right off the Home Depot shelf. Definitely burnt through the kitchen P trap causing a huge mess.

Never had the problem but once in my own, much older (no new pipe), home. We always use fine strainers on all the drains. In the shower it's best to buy the cheap dollar store plastic large strainer and turn it upside down. We did have one clog when we first got the place many years ago but it was from the main kitchen line down to the basement. After clearing the clog there we have been clog free and feels like it's our habits of only letting water based liquids down the drain (no grease or oil, or anything like that). About once a year, if I remember, we do the hot water flush with baking soda. That's normally because I am replacing the baking soda in the fridge (yeah I know it should be replaced more often, but if it smells fine I pretty much forget. Probably need to replace it now).

Lol. Hilarious and true. I used to use this exclusively until numerous plumbers advised using heated vinegar and a pipe stuffed with baking soda instead. Never looked back since.

I'm sure this has its applications and it's a great deal at this price. I just don't find myself using it often anymore.

I just bought green gobbler for my tub drain, draino didn't seem to work for us.. yet nothing does. Green gobbler keeps the tub from clogging a little longer though. ( sits on a concrete slab)

Are you being funny or serious? Is vinegar and baking soda good for breaking down junk that builds up in drains? Seriously asking lol

No, I'm being completely serious. The chemical reaction of the two is a perfect mechanism that agitates and eliminates the sludge that builds up in pipes from toothpaste, cosmetics, soaps, and other debris. Although it doesn't necessarily "eat" away at the hair (vinegar isn't acidic enough to do that), it either eliminates or considerably reduces the sludge coating the hair and then you can easily remove any hair with a hair catcher (I buy mine at Dollar Tree).

This shit is terrible for pipes. Keeps plumbers busy. We used to do alot of underslab leaks due to this stuff. Thata having to jackhammer up part of your foundation slab and digging down to chase and replace damaged pipe. Not usually a cheap job. Easier if your house is raised as can be accessed by crawl space. They sell snakes for your drain that are farily reasonable price, especially if compared to the alternative

My plumber friend always tells his client to never dump this corrosive chemicals down the drain. It'll eventually eat through the pipes. Then the cost to find the leak will be extremely expensive plus destruction to the house to find it. Don't do it.

Ok deal. Occasional use is ok, for more frequent clogs there are less harsh solutions like the vinegar and baking soda.

Drano doesn't "eat" through pipes. The issue is that if after Drano is used, if it is not fully flushed out from the piping by running the hot water for X minutes, the Drano will continue to react with organic matter it comes into contact with and thus continue to produce the high heat. Then the heat goes away, but if there is any Drano left and then organic material comes into contact again it starts the process all over again. The repetitive high heat cycles and expansion/contraction is what can damage the pipes. If you use Drano, you MUST run the hot water for X minutes (we typically run it for in upwards of 10 minutes). The good solution is to snake. if you have plastic pipes held together with plastic compression nuts I want to warn against plunging as you can very easily break the seal on a gasket and cause a leak.

The best and cheapest solution is to prevent things going down the drain that shouldn't. That means using drain covers in showers and sinks.
