  • How Trade-In Works:
    1. Calculate your trade-in phone's value
    2. Buy your new phone online
    3. Complete your new phone purchase online and activate your phone on the carrier's network (Best Buy will help with all that.)
    4. Pick up your new phone in one of our stores
    5. Bring your trade-in phone with you when you pick up your new one. Best Buy will check to make sure you're trading in the same phone you told them about online and check for any damage that might make your trade-in ineligible for the promotion.
    6. Best Buy will take your trade-in's value off the cost of your new phone.
      • Trade-in value is calculated to represent a working phone that turns on and does not have a cracked or broken screen. Your phone will be evaluated when you trade it in to validate that it meets all requirements.
      • Your order must be picked up from a store to complete your trade-in and apply its value to your new phone purchase.

just picked up my iphone 13 pro max blue 128gb and here is the entire process:
Im upgrading / trading my iphone 11 pro max .
Pre-ordered yesterday 09/23/2021 around 10 AM.
got a text an email this morning saying its ready to pick up.( was kinda surprised about this , but ig because this best buy has less people preordered , or got more stock , im in missouri)
I backed up my old phone to my computer . and reset the phone.
Got to best buy( I was one of the first 3 people there so i got help right away) , the guy asked me for my order number and name, then told me to get with a lady.
the entire pick up was about 15 mins, she asked for my id , then my old phone, she spent most of the time input stuff into the system. I confirmed on the machine my info is correct. she handed me the new iphone new in box with a sim card on top. I asked if she need to activate the phone or anything and she said no , when i put in the phone it should activate it self. got the phone and the receipt , now im heading home.
She didnt open the new phone box at all , she didnt ask if I need to transfer my old phone data to the new phone ( might be she noticed my old phone got reset)

what's the point of choosing a carrier if you pay almost full price lol

iPhone 13/pro is the weakest upgrade.
Only do it if you have a iPhone 8 or below.
Not worth $700/800 after all the hassle that you have to go through.
Your XR should be good through iPhone 14

Comparing this offer with the deal Tmobile is offering directly, it seems like T-mobile's deal is better if you have & plan to keep their service.
T-Mobile offers up to $1000 for the trade, which comes in 30 monthly credits that offset the 30 monthly payments for the phone, so you pay nothing for the new phone.
With this Best Buy deal, you pay ~$500 up front for the new phone, but are not committing to keep T-mobile service for a long term.

Am I missing something?
BB will let you keep the current plan you have (i.e a cheaper plan than Magenta Max $85/month)
Less the $30 activation fee which I think you can get waived through TM
Also through BB you arent stuck with TM for 30 months

If you assume someone is on the base Magenta $70/month plan
$15*30 = $450 over 3 months basically negates any cost savings you'd incur for the phone not to mention the shitty bill credits

Hey guys! I have a iPhone 11pro max and the back of the phone edge of the glass is slightly cracked. Do I need to worry about the trade in value? With a case on no one would ever know it was there. TIA

I have an old Simple Choice plan. As I read this, if I want to trade in my 12 for a 13 at Best Buy, I do NOT need to change my plan (right?) and one-time costs would be:

$699.99 (cost of 13 after $100 discount)
-$520.00 (trade-in value of 12)
-----------
$179.99 + tax on just the $179.99

That's it, right?

It didn't work for me, I believe it's because I have the same plan as you, Simple Choice.

Based on what I read so far, if you are a new customer, you will need to wait for 40 days, and pay $35 (activation fee) + $65 x 1.33 (T-mobile's lowest monthly plan for new customer for 40 days before you can unlock it) = $121 to unlock it.

Correct me if am wrong.

I'm an existing T-Mobile customer, bought my iPhone 12 Pro unlocked from apple store and now I'm planning to trade in via Best Buy and get $800 for my iPhone 12 Pro and just pay $99 plus tax for iPhone 13 pro. I'm curious how long it takes for T-Mobile to unlock this phone? Will it be unlocked by default? I won't be in any 24-30 month bill credits or anything right?

Seems like it. I just cancelled and reordered with a "sprint" phone. I also unlocked it so I assume I should be able to pass.

Fully pay for phone upfront, then 40 days on network

With Best Buy, we are fully paying for the phone upfront right? With trade in and all?

Can I have it on a new Magenta Plan for one month, cancel, wait 10 days and request an unlock from T-mobile at a store? The Unlock policy mentions that if a device is associated with a canceled account, said account would need a zero balance, which is not a problem.

Not really. Unless you have iPhone 12 Pro this is a major upgrade over XR or even 11. The screen with 120hz, 5G, battery and variable refresh rate is alone worth the upgrade. But to each its own. You'll likely make the same argument next year

Same here, and I don't think there's a workaround to the problem. I tried calling Best Buy, going to the physical store and calling T-Mobile. T-Mobile says that there's nothing wrong with my account (Simple Choice) and that I should be able to activate the phone. Best Buy says that they can't sell me the phone because T-Mobile will not allow them to access my type of account. I think some of us are just stuck and I don't know what the deal is because some SC customers are able to order the phone while some like you and I are not.
I have that plan too and no issues. It went through. Got iPhone 13 pro max and iPhone 13. Traded in iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone 7.

Does anyone know if the T-Mobile trade-in offer, upgrade option, does it mean to upgrade my T-Mobile plan or? What does the upgrade option mean?
