  • How Trade-In Works:
    1. Calculate your trade-in phone's value
    2. Buy your new phone online
    3. Complete your new phone purchase online and activate your phone on the carrier's network (Best Buy will help with all that.)
    4. Pick up your new phone in one of our stores
    5. Bring your trade-in phone with you when you pick up your new one. Best Buy will check to make sure you're trading in the same phone you told them about online and check for any damage that might make your trade-in ineligible for the promotion.
    6. Best Buy will take your trade-in's value off the cost of your new phone.
      • Trade-in value is calculated to represent a working phone that turns on and does not have a cracked or broken screen. Your phone will be evaluated when you trade it in to validate that it meets all requirements.
      • Your order must be picked up from a store to complete your trade-in and apply its value to your new phone purchase.

just picked up my iphone 13 pro max blue 128gb and here is the entire process:
Im upgrading / trading my iphone 11 pro max .
Pre-ordered yesterday 09/23/2021 around 10 AM.
got a text an email this morning saying its ready to pick up.( was kinda surprised about this , but ig because this best buy has less people preordered , or got more stock , im in missouri)
I backed up my old phone to my computer . and reset the phone.
Got to best buy( I was one of the first 3 people there so i got help right away) , the guy asked me for my order number and name, then told me to get with a lady.
the entire pick up was about 15 mins, she asked for my id , then my old phone, she spent most of the time input stuff into the system. I confirmed on the machine my info is correct. she handed me the new iphone new in box with a sim card on top. I asked if she need to activate the phone or anything and she said no , when i put in the phone it should activate it self. got the phone and the receipt , now im heading home.
She didnt open the new phone box at all , she didnt ask if I need to transfer my old phone data to the new phone ( might be she noticed my old phone got reset)

iPhone 13/pro is the weakest upgrade.
Only do it if you have a iPhone 8 or below.
Not worth $700/800 after all the hassle that you have to go through.
Your XR should be good through iPhone 14

I should have mentioned, my tracfone sim card is specifically Tmobile BYOD sim. So that helped.
Yes I understand. But for Bestbuy iPhone, they used to lock the phone to the first carrier, in your case, Tracfone. If it's the same policy for this batch of iPhone 13, there's no way Tracfone can unlock it.

I read that in the pickup email, so they really require fingerprint.
Am I the only one that finds it ridiculous to require that for buying a phone?
I'm sure they get a lot of return fraud

What is considered a strong upgrade? The internals have vastly improved since the X

Sidebar - does Google Authenticator back up all the 2FA tokens to the cloud/local storage during a backup? I have never been able to get that to work right unless I am porting the app data to a new physical device. Which would mean I'd need to do that in person, at Best Buy, and not forget about it amidst all the excitement of a new phone. Smilie

If anyone is curious, I did activate the phone with tracfone sim card after checking out from BestBuy. Smilie Not sure if Tmobile will come after me but everything is working fine.

in google authenticator, go to settings and export to QR codes. take screenshots (theres 3 QR codes) and email it to yourself. then on the new phone just scan those QR codes.

I was just googling about the Apple retail Flex iPhones being locked to first sim inserted and there are some older horror stories of both Tmobile and BestBuy being unable to unlock the phones.

Has someone recently been able to unlock best buy iPhones through T-mobile in 40 days?

$620 TIV for an iPhone 12 + an extra $100 off the 13/128gb?? I'm in! Placed my order at 3:57pm and got the ready for pickup email at about 4:10pm. Still have quite a bit on EIP but seems like that doesn't matter according to what I've been reading.
Hopefully this doesn't fark up my account Wink

Somehow Best Buy is the only one that requires it for trade in.

Half true. T-Mobile can unlock it but not without some effort. T-Mobile won't be able to associate the phone IMEI number with user's T-Mobile account (it's with Tracfone obviously). However, T-Mobile is able to help if the user gets a know-how CS person and provides T-Mobile with proof of purchase like a receipt. Anyway, we really should initialize the phone with T-Mobile sim if we stay in T-Mobile eco system.

What if the first carrier SIM card is non Us simcard . Would it still lock it ?
