just picked up my iphone 13 pro max blue 128gb and here is the entire process:
Im upgrading / trading my iphone 11 pro max .
Pre-ordered yesterday 09/23/2021 around 10 AM.
got a text an email this morning saying its ready to pick up.( was kinda surprised about this , but ig because this best buy has less people preordered , or got more stock , im in missouri)
I backed up my old phone to my computer . and reset the phone.
Got to best buy( I was one of the first 3 people there so i got help right away) , the guy asked me for my order number and name, then told me to get with a lady.
the entire pick up was about 15 mins, she asked for my id , then my old phone, she spent most of the time input stuff into the system. I confirmed on the machine my info is correct. she handed me the new iphone new in box with a sim card on top. I asked if she need to activate the phone or anything and she said no , when i put in the phone it should activate it self. got the phone and the receipt , now im heading home.
She didnt open the new phone box at all , she didnt ask if I need to transfer my old phone data to the new phone ( might be she noticed my old phone got reset)

iPhone 13/pro is the weakest upgrade.
Only do it if you have a iPhone 8 or below.
Not worth $700/800 after all the hassle that you have to go through.
Your XR should be good through iPhone 14

The late order I put in on 9/23 for max pro 128G blue shows ready for pick up today. They may indeed get more stock in seems like. SF bay area.
You're lucky! Maybe they have more 128gb models in stock. I ordered the pro max 256 in graphite on the 21st in SF bay area as well. Enjoy the phone!

Does anyone know if there is a way to transfer esim to new phone without old one? I was going to make a cloud backup but don't want to sit through trouble of moving esim in store - can I restore esim once I'm back home on new iPhone

So if I don't insert T-Mobile SIM card in, phone will not lock to T-Mobile, correct?

The upgrade is no big deal to me. Only reason I'm doing it is because of the "possible" trade in value next year. Had I not gotten the Visible deal last year for the iPhone 12 Pro Max, I would've kept my phone same 3-4 years. But last year was $200 gift card, minus 15% cashback which did come, several referrals at $15 each and free headphones which I sold for $175. So new iPhone 12 Pro Max out of pocket was around $500 last year. That won't happen again.

This upgrade to an iPhone 13 Pro Max is $134. Though I Shirley don't need it, I would do this every year for $134.

This is the only reason I'm also upgrading from X to 13.
Trade in value for X next year would be nothing.
Other than that I'm comfortably happy with X.
In fact the newer pro phones are slightly heavier and bulky. (Just comparing them physically. I know lot has changed under the hood).

I have the old simple choice plan, 9 lines and have one more available. If I add a line, will my plan be changed?

Ordered 2 512 GB Pros and 1 is still showing 'will let you know once ready for pickup'. The other order shows up as delayed. Hopefully they will get them some time next week and not auto cancel the order beginning of October. That would be a bummer.

If the box is sealed the phone is going to carrier lock to the first SIM inserted. I am researching the unlocking possibilities but it seems even Verizon is a dangerous game - no guarantee of unlock after 60 calendar days.

If you are already a Tmob customer it makes sense, but if you are new, add $65 X 2 months into the calculation. Almost 140$(with taxes), that is almost 270$. Plus cases , tempered glass, etc. Isnt is safe to assume it would cost almost 300$ at the end to go from 12 pm to 13 pro max ? Happy to be corrected if there is something i am missing.

Ordered on 09/19, initial charge showed up as "Pending Auth" but now another charge shows as "Pending auth reversal". Is this normal with Best Buy?

Yes, there are additional costs of course. I was ready to pay the $65/month for 2 months Tmobile service as I'd be a new subscriber. ($45 really as I'm paying $20/month for service now) But it turns out you may be able to get the phone unlocked immediately via TForce on Twitter. I'll have to try it of course. But if that's the case I'll port out immediately once unlocked. This will eliminate the second month of service at $65 and they may even prorate the first month. Not sure about that prorated part but it's been mentioned. We will just have to see how it goes.

I doubt I'll spend more than $20 for a case and no tempered glass. I've had cell phones since 1997 for work and have never dropped or ruined one. So just the case. (I see a $9.99 clear one on Amazon already)

Assuming this Best Buy deal comes through, I'll come back after all is said and done to see how much I spent. But yes, there are some costs in addition to the $132 phone.

Thanks for info about unlocking. Going to try that, if it goes well , it is definitely worth the upgrade.

I submitted through Twitter last night (they were super busy, took about 2.5 hours before getting a reply back). Since the phone is dual sim and i need to use the second sim for work with another carrier, and i paid in full, i asked them to unlock so i could use both sim cards. Asked for receipt (screenshot of order from BB with it showing picked up), i provided both IMEI numbers, and cell number and contact number. CSR submitted and said will take up to 72 business hours; have another 52 hours to go, still showing "SIM Locked" under Carrier Lock and a non-TMobile sim did not activate.
Based on a conversation with T-Force, it is my understanding that the 72 hour wait is how long it takes for the phone to register with T-Mobile's systems. I'm guessing this has to do with the Best Buy's flex activation policy. My Costco T-Mobile iPhones unlocks were instant.

If you look at the phone unlock status on T-Mobile's website, it will probably say:
Quote :
Status unknown
IMEI: xxxx
xxNamexx , xxPhone #xx
This device is not in our system."
I had my unlock request approved on Fri, so as soon as the iPhone 13 is recognized, the unlock should be instant.

Hmm..weird, when I look at my account, it shows the phone and imei as soon as I put the sim card on Friday. Will see what happens at the 72 hours
