the difference between a 4k fire tv and an apple tv is like having a 10-yr-old saab versus a lexus

the number of times i've had to force close/restart a fire tv is…well, more than i can count. netflix has been broken on it for as long as amazon's had streaming devices (they seemingly don't want it to work well). the number of ads on the fire homepage is obscene. the slowness/lag for the menu ui is a huge drag.

none of these problems have showed up for me on the apple tv.

i would not recommend it to those who can't really afford it, but if you have the disposable income, it really does make your streaming tv watching life easier…

…which i realize is the most obscene and privileged sentence i've ever written

If you are into the Apple ecosystem it is the most seamless out there. This comes with a premium for sure which you can argue isn't worth it.

However, for people that have the means and want an effortless entire system for their grandparents, parents, and non tech savvy spouses, you can't beat it. Everything just works.

I have yet to see anything across all android devices that comes close.

Personally, I have a 2017 nvidia shield, but I would get this Apple TV for anyone else in my life without question since it will make my life easier when they have any tech issue.

I think the only reason you can use to defend the price is the simplicity caused be being a perfect fit in the ecosystem.

I used to have iPhones for my wife and I, fire sticks on the TVs and fire tablets for the kids. The wife could never figure out how to work the kids tablets on road trips and it was challenging using the fire stick (yes, I realize they are pretty easy to use). Replaced them all with iPads and Apple TV's and don't hear one gripe from the wife about how she can't "fix" any of them. Worth every penny!!

Go to tech specs and you'll see that's the one with the A8 chip, not A12
It's the newest model with the A12 chip.

Veterans and Military Store buyers can get the 32GB model new for $161 or refurbished for $134 (plus sales tax).

Love mine and I recently upgraded my remote to this version (because we accidentally threw the crappy black one away) and its the bust upgrade for Apple TV period.

This thing is a million times better than Roku etc.

Exactly. This generation of Apple TVs will easily last 5 years, so you're looking at $20 annualized over Google/Amazon (who decided to save $10 of those dollars on hardware and made the other $10 up on analytics and ads but I digress). Plan according?

It's not unusual. Apple often sends out review units when a product launches and those units need to be returned after a period of time. It's also not unheard of for people to buy a specific model and then change their mind and either return or exchange it for a different version.

I own both the 4th gen and the new 6th gen versions. I have always hated the old Siri remote that came with my 4th gen. After using the new Siri remote that came with my 6th gen, I ended up buying the new Siri remote to replace the old one. It honestly really makes a huge difference when it comes to the user experience for me. The old remote was so frustrating to use that I just stopped using my Apple TV for years. But now I use it all the time with the new remote. It's amazing just how much a remote can make a difference.

Anyone use Funimation or Crunchy Roll on their Apple TV, not just this 4k model? I use ROKU and those two apps crash or lag worse than Warzone. I'd like to know in general with tvOS, if these apps have the same issue as on the ROKU tv: navigation is slow, sometimes doesn't play next show, selection box is invisible, skips selections, crashes, and like a 100 more.

It seems like such waste of money to get this for only 2 apps (that I use most frequently), but it's either this or go the Chromecast route. Nothing wrong with Chromecast... just rather not have to use my phone to scroll through and stuff.
I've got the exact same issue and have resorted to just using my smart TVs built in OS and apps which are still painfully slow but crash less often and hang less than my Roku 4K stick. I might give the 32gb Apple TV a try and donate the Roku stick.

Quick correction: it does NOT have Spatial Audio. Only iPhones and iPads do so far. Wish it did, but no luck yet.
Apple Music Atmos and as of a couple days ago, it also does quadraphonic.
